Ok, so I bought a green laser off of amazon a while back. I cant provide a link as most lasers seem to have disapeared off of amazon since. Did a new law get passed on lasers? But anyway, my laser has stopped working. I have searched the forums for a solution but didnt find anything exact. It has a faint red light which I have learned to not look into and the front rattles when shaken.

A new law didn't get passed on lasers, but PayPal stopped accepting payment for lasers.

That dim red light is infrared light, as you said don't look at it. It is much more powerful than it appears.

That rattling may mean the metal piece that holds crystals in front of the diode has come loose. Only one way to find out, crack it open! :)

Ok, so how should I go about opening it up? that top piece screws off and underneath that theres a lense that screws off, and then I can see some stuff but it isnt really possible to really look at the laser that way? Beyond that its pretty much all one piece.

I would just chuck it in the trash!
Then go on ebay and get one that will be better for under $15..

I had the same its nothing but a piece of junk even tho the host is not too bad for its price..

Amazon cracked down on laser sales, the bastards, probably under pressure from government pigs; maybe the USDA should look into it. But joking aside, Amazon doesn't sell anything over 5mW anymore.

The rattling is probably the metal piece that holds the crystals, which glues to the front of the module. You could probably glue it back into place although you'd need to fiddle with it to get it oriented properly. You'd really want to get a pair of IR safety glasses though, rated for 808nm and 1064nm, since you'd need the laser to be on while positioning the crystals.

You can probably replace the module if need be. All of these seem to use the same inexpensive DPSS modules, so if you really want to fix it, you can get a module from Fasttech for 5 bucks or so, and that module should almost be plug and play. You'd just have to pull out the old one, push in the new, and make sure the board is oriented so that the little switch is under the external button. I've done it with 301's and it works. The only problem I had was the switch getting caught on the button and getting pulled off the board, something to avoid although it wasn't hard to solder the switch back on.

At least, that is my best guess but all these Chinese lasers seem to use the same internal setup and as long as the replacement parts match the shape/size and switch positioning of the originals, they should fit right in. Good luck!
