Green beam specs

Just a quick question. In general do higher power lasers have similar beam specs to their lower power cousins? I love my green pen laser of unknown wattage because the beam is so bright but also because its round and small where as my blue and purple lasers have large beams obviously .. do strong green lasers also have large rectangular multimode style beams or are they more tightly collimat ed?

Well, it depends. A multimode laser will have a multimode beam. A 1 watt 532nm DPSS laser will typically have a very nice beam but the new high power 520nm diodes are multimode and will have a beam profile similar to the high power 445nm diodes which are also multimode.

So the light emitted from the ktp crystal in a dpss laser has a small round low divergent beam?

Well the light from the ktp is colminated through the OC but has that very nice round dot.

There is a spectrum chart somewhere I just cant find it again but its on the forums shows relative visibility of diff colors

532nm is roughly 4-5x as bright as 473/650. 400mW of green is blinding to look at. its really bright.

The brightness depends not only on the power, but also on beam thickness, air conditions, angle of view, eye sensitivity (which is individual)...

Isnt 300mw green equal to like 1W blue or something in visibility?

My Skylasers HL532-100 is roughly equal in brightness (as in "room lighting power") to my Skylasers PL445-1600. When you line the dots up they do their best to cancel each other out and you end up with a sort of "argon blue" icy colour.

As many of these lasers come overspec we can assume the 532 is probably in the region of 150mW and the 445 could be anything up to 2W.

Being roughly equal tells me that 300mW of green would most certainly be brighter than 1W of blue.

Please note my figures are purely speculative and only for entertainment purposes ;)

Good enough for me im gonna get a 300mw HL or PL. I think I like the HL host more which host do you prefer trencheel?

DPSS sucks though for real I may just go 520nm diode for stability such a hard choice wish I had the budget for both of them
