Yes? No? Maybe?

i have never worked with this before (see pic), but to avoid heating my diode all together except for initial extraction sounds like a good plan.
what do you guys think? Should i try it?

also, while i got a topic, whats considered the best solder type for use with diodes?

If you're afraid of soldering or burning up your diode, use some solder paste. The DX solderpaste works fine for diode...
 
mount the diode in the final modul or heatsink, then if the diode is able to give the heat further, solder the Wire in one second on the diode. I cant believe that this hurt the diode.

Cant imagine that Wire glue makes a good job.
 
well, i was having a massive problem with my solder (oxidization?) it wouldnt stick to the diode (had to use ice to cool the heatsink, then try again ect. :(

eitherway, i bought that glue^, some tin solder, and a flux pen.

ahh, my next build will be ready in about 2-3 weeks, but ill get back to ya ;)
 
The connection to the diode is CRITICAL!!!! DO NOT use wire glue.. If the connection to the diode is bad or comes loose even for a millisecond it will instantly kill your diode. Use a low temp. (25W) soldering iron with a small tip, and narrow gauge rosin-core solder.

Before you solder anything, tin the tip of the iron with solder. Once the tip is silvered completely, take a wet sponge and wipe any excess solder off of the tip while it's still hot. Also wipe the tip with the sponge after every solder joint. This will keep the tip clean and help make the bonds MUCH stronger. A good rule of thumb is: If the solder joint is a dull silver color, redo it. If it is bright shiny silver, you're good.. A clean tip will help you achieve a bright shiny silver solder joint.

I just made a thread that might answer a few of your questions here:http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1228338567.

Basically all you need to do is go to Radio shack (or equivalent) and look at their solder selection. Find rosin-core solder (it'll say on the package) and pick a size that look like it matches up to the job well. You'll see what I mean when you're looking at it..
