Got my first HeNe!!

I just got my first HeNe red laser!!! yay! looks awsome!!!!

I bought this on impulse at the low price of $28 after shipping on ebay (the guy had it at buy it now)

now that I have it I've noticed it has some slight blue halo around the red dot, any idea what it is?

also, what can I do with this laser besides look at it and be happy?

looks great, the blue light is just from the electrical discharge within the laser, quite normal

I want to get my hands on one of these self contained units.

Not sure where I could get one though, and would want a higher powered one.

HeNe's and high output power don't mix very well though expect to pay a few grand for anything more than like 10mw

Too cool! Congrats! I loves my 2 HeNe's and there are a few things to do with them. Holography, Light effects, tests (not really bright though) optical alignment, and color combination experiments and tests to name a very few!
