and it works quite nicely! At 10 mW it's no beast but does shine bright especially considering it uses 3 LR44 button cells. The batteries that came witth it were dead but I had some more in an old red laser pointer.

This is the one I got: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7416

I'll post some pics compared with my X45 when I have time.

That one is pretty nice. I just received mine, sans batteries. The 5mW shipped alongside arrived with 3 dead batteries, so don't trust power cells they send. After using gator clips to a V/A regulated supply, the thing shines beautifully. It's not perfect, but I figure I received a good deal on it.

Finally, those button cells are being sold in bulk so the price isn't so bad. You just gotta have another pocket with spare buttons ;D

Or, if you're in the USA and in a real pinch for batteries, Radio Shack has a good deal. They just don't know it. ;)

The 6v alkaline PX28AB photo battery ($5) contains 4 LR44 cells. Nothing like a 75% discount to make you feel better about yourself and the mischief a little knowledge can bring.

P.S. RS uses the catalog number 2300469 for this battery. Don't let them talk you into the others.

Or if you scout around e-bay, you will find really good deals on button cells...and brand names too.. :D

Target sells a pack of button cells - like 10 LR43's I think is what they were for around $4.00

What is the silver oxide equivalent of the LR44 (alkaline)? Much better capacity. Or look for a Li-Ion cell that's the size of all the batts. ;D

I ordered a few to play with. Looks like the biggest downfall is the power source indeed. But on a keyring it's handy to point something out like a sprinkler head 75' up in an aircraft hangar. :)
