found a flashlight say the Casey's gas station this morning, it is an LED flashlight/laser pointer combo, i took it apart and the inside diamter is about the same as a quarter, and easily and inch deep worth of working room, maybe more. the flashlight takes 3xAAA batteries, so 4.5V?

i jsut bought a the 16x diode from jake21 that he says runs at 250mw, and i bought a fixed driver 250mw, wondering if you all think this would be an ok host, and if 4.6v is good enough.
 





oh ur useing regular batts, u might need to get 2x 10440 batteries and bridge the batterie holder or get a dummy batteries to make 6v for a red diode

Not might need-- will need. The diode needs 3V. The driver needs 2.2V. You will need at least 5.2V for this to work.

He says he bought a fixed driver.  I assumed it was one of Rkcstr's drivers since it was "fixed."  If it is another driver, we need to know that to help more.  In any event, the flexdrive can only take from 2.4 - 5.5V.  It can't take "virtually anything."

yeah it's a rkcstr driver, so i need 5.2v, whats the max V i can safely use without risking burning up my diode, or the driver, so i know what i have to work with.
 
The flashlight i am using, like i said has a pretty big diameter, it has a plastic berttery holder that you slip 3 AAA batteries into, then you slide that piece into the flashlight handle, so the battery holder inside the flashlight is only long enough to hold one regular length battery....

The Rkcstr can take up to 12V. However, anything over 5.2 is converted to heat so you want to make it over that threshold, but not have a significant amount of excess. Jake's suggestion of using two 10440's and a "filler" should work well. Two 10440's will give you just over 8V when fully charged and stay above the minimum until the batteries have run down quite a bit. Two 10440's is one of my favorite ways to power a red when I use a Rkcstr driver.

you should post a picture of the host!

and also i would say go for the 2 or 3 10440 batteries i use them with my personal aaa battery builds and love them.
 
here are soem pictures of it, see how the 3 AAA fit into a holder, then it slides into the flashlight. this flashlight was $5.99

i was looking at the 10440, is it the same size as a standard AAA battery? if so, could i use like one 10440 and two regular AAA batteries to give me 6.6v?
