glass lense necessary?

im about to order some parts for my blu ray laser, just wondering if i will need to buy a glass lense for it? ive got a module with an acrylic lense but theres a glass lense on odic force for 405nm diodes, will i have to get this to focus it properly?

no, but if you look around and get the one from a member called jayrob his give a 29% increase in power.
Also with this increase in power with better lenses you will increase the life of the laser due to less light bouncing back to the diode.
So no you don't but they will give you more power.
Or in some cases if you are running at very high currents you will meant that plastic lens.

You don't need a glass lens but they do increase the output of the laser. On my first build I didn't use one because of the cost
 
Acrylic, or plastic lens, will focus your bluray laser very nicely,

So my answer was its not needed but recomended.
i would only use a plastic lens on phr blu-ray
 
I use plastic on my 190mW 6x Bluray, apsolutely no problems so far.

I would not go any higher than that, though, like TJ just said - anything over 200mW will visibly degrade lens over time of usage.

does anyone know if this driver is alright?

also do i have to solder the desistor in that it show in the pic and does it come with the driver?
and do i just put a piece of wire betwwen the pads labelled connect?

Weird looking driver, looks partially hand assembled.

What diode are you looking to power up, again?

That there is a boost driver which means you need input voltage lower than output voltage, so if Bluray diode is in question, use only one lithium cell , or two alkaline cells to power it.
 
i seeeee, would i be better using this (<<<link) or should i stick with the step up.

im gunner make it a mini lab laser for now and with the step up i could just use 2xAA but with the other id need 3 or 4
