Sharp single diodes are most of the same this point
Osram diode is the point part is better than sharp
I want to know the PLT5 488 diode. Is the point around that diode clean? and how much Maximum output?
i love 495nm ~500nm color :love:

The sharp diodes have better divergence, but the plt5-488 doesn't have the square box with the spot. Nobody pushed the plt5-488 hard here, we do not know the max. These are too rare/expensive to risk killing. I am running mine at the max suggestion on the spec sheet for ~60mW at ~484nm out.
 
I can see from your beam's profile that you are using a single element short focal length aspheric lens. That is the best lens for power, but the worst for the rectangular artifact. Since you decided on such a small pen build, you can't have much, if any, heat sinking, so the run times will be limited. If you would like to clean up the profile try the 2 element glass 520nm AR coated lens from DTR. That, or the acrylic lens that comes with most modules, but in this case you will have to use something to glue the lens to your focus assembly as the lens housing is too short. Nice looking build. Enjoy it. ;)

I see you like to drive your diodes as hard as possible.
Those 495s are pretty rare. I keep mine nice and comfortable at the manufacturer's specified operating current for a long life.
 
I run mine at 275 mA with a Nano Boost driver. But, they are all well heat sinked and never get close to running hot.
 
Nice laser ! I have an idea like this too.Just ordered 505nm then I will jam the LD into my LL 510nm laser pointer.
 
No bullet dot anymore. I changed G2 -> G7 aleady haaa!. My 490nm is just dot now !!! ♥
