Well I tried rubbing a few materials against the diode window and another couple alcohol 'Q-tippings' (70%) final one followed by some duster air to evaporate the alcohol.
The beam cleaned up fairly well and now it's metering around 240mW. I'm fairly pleased because I was only expecting 180-190 something. It's got the 405-G-1 lens in it so that's probably contributing significantly.
