Get ready for some big greens!

Forget about it, sorry. I just found out that the damn module is completely unusable. Right in front of the where the diode used to be is a two element collimator. It's made out of two tiny identical (plastic maybe) lenses in a small brass cylinder. The thing just slides out and the lenses just fall out! There is no trace of glue and there is no way I can put them back totally centered. What a POS! I'm surprised thing thing ever worked!

Now I'm back to nothing and will have try to find another 150mw module again.

Edit: I see you took the effort to measure for me. I hope I didn't cause you trouble for this :yabbem:

Actually I think I may have solved the lens issue. Now I'm just not sure which way the lenses should face each other, but I can find out by trial and error I guess.
But this led to my next misfortune: My camera is dead. I putted in the wrong ac adapter and made magic smoke :banghead:. So now I can't show you what it looks like. The distance between the die and diode face seem to match yours at 2.10mm, I cannot get an accurate measurement though.

The diode to the left and the collimator to the right. See how they fit together at the red marking. Any leftovers from the can could cause trouble.
 
Are they both plano covex?

I know for the one closest to the crystal set should be convex side out,
and the flat side of the first lens facing the LD. So both lenses in
the same direction.

Yeah that's how I assembled them for now. They both are plano convex, and to my eye identical.
 
I taped some lenses to my cellphone and got some decent pictures:

LOL, good looking attempt though! Thats a nice little bead you got on there..
For the most part, trying to re set one of those leads usually results in the chip
being wiped off on the sponge or lost in the solder paste :crackup:

You have a steady hand indeed. I love to see this kind of work, weather it
actually works or not, +1 for the effort my good man.

I will get some of these 9mm tested, and if you are interested Ill send one your
way. There is still hope in getting that going, but if you plan on running a higher
power LD, id suggest you mount that module in a decent sized heatsink.
When I made my first labby, the crystals were touchy and heated up rather quick.
Thats not including the heat that the 1W pump adds to the equation..

I have so much more I need to learn.
I'm so messed up on medication right now for the issues with my left arm... reading this thread has my head spinning and my eyes feel really strange.

all I know for sure is I would pay good money for a 60W(or more powerful) laser in 532nM or 445nM in a Sterling 9mm SMG sized/styled host!

Thank you for the comments! The diode actually makes LED light, but I figured it would never lase again. I just want to save this module and use it in my white fuison, so I will only give it the power it needs to get white. I'm hoping to get it running without too much mode-shifting when modulated. I would absolute love to get a diode from you, but I pay you of course.

When the time comes, ill walk you through a few points to
get your desired results... I dont publicly share all my secrets ;)

I de canned 1 from my scrap LD's, but from the same batch..

Dang there's no way I can make that fit. The pedestal must be less than 5mm across.


You could make it work, just have to remove 1.2mm from what looks
like a collar/spacer on the inside. This is something you will need access
to a lathe, or it may break up, even split.

The pedestal measures 6.2mm BTW..
 
Oh I see what you mean. But I don't have acces to a lathe though, a drill-press at best. But that could work if I put the collimator in the chuck and a drill on a vise, yes?.

A drill press should also work fine, just be sure to be good and centered.
Its only a difference of 1.2mm if the I.D is 5mm. By the look of the collar in
the pic, it seems to be aluminum, so should be an easy task.

Use a new drill bit if you have the correct size and lots of lube :D

Give it a good cleaning after with acetone or alcohol, and remove
any burr's. Because the LD is open can, you dont want any debris
in there...

Ive already tested some random 1W's out of this lot, and all is going good.
These seem to be on the money as far as wavelength is concerned.
Outputs also seem to be up to par.

Just wondering ..... do you know what power have the c-mount ones ?

Anything around 2 or 3W ?
 
I think the c-mounts are 980nm 3W. Good for NV illumination, but thats about it...
