I am going to buy a Gamo Whisper air rifle later this year and I would like to know what the body is made out of. I searched and searched beyond the great 7 seas to find the answer but I couldn't. If you have this gun can you tell me what the body is made of? Metal? Plastic? Wood? Also is there a mount that exists that would fit the arctic on the barrel?

an arctic on an air rifle?

jesus kid... i couldnt care less what the body is made of, im not being a scaredy, but i think mounting an arctic on the barrel of your airsoft rifle is nothing short of assinine.

Airsoft? It's a 1200 fps pellet gun. I think it would make a good laser sight for targets from a very far distance. I'm just saying a mount that fits it. idk if it's too bright but I want to find out.

thanks for correcting me, not exactly something i pay much attention to...!

and with the divergence ive experienced, i doubt it, i would go for a well made ~50mw green, 100 if you must.

One of my Buds has a Gamo(not that model)--it is black w/red laser and scope--SWEET-

-the stock is 'plastic' but not w/ a cheap feel(?maybe nylon or ABS)--I am not looking at it atm but I don't think you would be able to change the laser w/o some hassle--and why would you want to anyway--just to look cooler? not sure how well you would be able to see 445 in the daytime but the red shows up very well in the scope.

btw the owners manual says to use Gamo ammo only--but that may be just to help sell thier own brand--his is single fire--must re-load by breaking down for each re-load.

But the look/feel of it is very heavy duty--I did not even think it was a bb/pellet gun when I first saw it.---200$ (+or-) at Academy

Gamo's are real garbage. Even their high end models. Believe me I've owned quite a few of them. If you want a nice air rifle that will stand the test of time, that is quality and craftsmanship, something you can pass on to your kids... Gamo ain't it. Might I suggest a Beeman or a BSA. Mind you they are pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want something more in the Gamo price range check out Stoeger. Stoeger's guns are designed by Benelli of the shotgun fame.

But to answer your question the stock is made out of a glass filled nylon composite.

Ok thanks for the answer. I was doing some research today and I came across stoeger. I'm thinking of getting a stoeger. Thanks for the heads up.

I've put 1000's of rounds through my crossman quest. I can hit anything at 100 yards in little wind. Just a few pointers here.

Once you break the sound barrier ammo goes unstable. (About 1100 fps. 1128 fps is the exact answer at sea level at 70 degrees F)

Scopes on air rifles are not the same as a firearm. The recoil on a air rifle is forward and back. A firearm is only back. (many lasers suffer for this reason also)

Buy many kinds of ammo and find the one that fires the way you like. I like the crossman premiers for target and rockets for bird hunting.

Gamo Rocket Air Rifle Pellets : Cabela's

And last save your money and buy a nice scope, a laser on a break barrel is not a good idea. just my 2 cents.

Make sure you buy a spring gun air rifle scope, too. A regular rifle scope will get trashed by the recoil characteristics of a spring gun (or theoben gas ram). Spring guns recoil a lot different than a firearm. Also, never use a spring gun as a practice medium for a firearm.. Remember, a firearm recoils in one direction, a spring gun recoils both forward and backwards. Very different. I mostly use PCP air guns these days. I love my old spring guns, but PCPs are much more fun. No recoil and startlingly accurate. Plus you can use regular rifle scopes on a PCP. Lots more choice.

p.s. Gamo pellets suck as much as their guns. Use JSB, RWS, Haendler & Natermann, or Beeman pellets. Very consistent. If you want to go cheap use Crosman or Eun Jin pellets. All Gamo pellets are is bad copies of other company's pellets. Mostly out of spec, too. Garbage.

I had never seen, fired or even heard of a Gamo. Stiil never shot one.. sounds like you know your airguns. And we all know that looks can be deceiving. So I will take your word that gamos are crap.

I like my Benjamins... my pistol I not new 30+ yrs ago and the rifle I found at a garage sale for 20$. I would like to get it re-built someday--I think there are only one or two models of Benjamin rifles older than this one. It gets loaded by dropping the BBs down the barrel!!! LOL--- circa 1930s. Anybody know where I can get it fixed?? The laser on the pistol I found at a thrift shop for a dollar or two made by Daisy. Its for looks only--I have fired the pistol for so many years I just look at the target and the bb/pellet goes there--the darts or bolts I use not so accurate but fun just the same. I prolly killed 200+ rats over the years with the pistol for snake food. hak

Ok. I'll give my reasons for ragging on Gamo. I'm going to compare three spring guns I have in my collection. The old school Beeman R1 (mine is like 12 years old), the Gamo Stutzen had it for a couple of years, and the Feinwerkbau 603. The Beeman and the Gamo are comparable in price ($500-$600 bucks). The Feinwerkbau is bucks. I think I paid like $1500 bucks for the 603 many many years ago. I can consistently put a five shot group at 50 yards that you can cover with a dime using match pellets with the R1. The Stutzen (keep in mind this is one of the finest guns Gamo has ever made). I have the trigger setup perfect, I've tried numerous different match pellets, I've never been able to group under 1" with this Stutzen. Never. The Feinwerkbau? Why I threw that in I don't know. One ragged hole basically. I wish my damn centerfire rifles had a trigger that good. You may not believe this but I can pick off Certs at 50 yards with the Feinwerkbau. Amazing gun. I'm not even that good a shot. lol! Their newer PCPs are 10 times more amazing. Damn Germans.

Wow! That Benjamin rifle is incredible. I never actually handled one of that vintage... seen pictures. What's wrong with it? Benjamin and Sheridan pump guns are a lot of fun. Not really all that accurate beyond 25 yards or so, but very nostalgic and lots of fun. Love the Crosman Pumpmaster, too. Many a dove fell to the dinner table with my Crosman Pumpmaster when I was a youngster.

the Arctic on the gun would be more dangerous than the gun itself.........you wouldnt need an arctic on it more like a 30-100mW green!!

I had to concentrate on acting like I was just mildly intereted when I saw it.. Had no price tag -20$ was my first offer-- I would gladly paid 5 times that.
AFAIK- Just the leather piece on the rod needs replacement--tried using a soft piece from an old belt but could not get a fit that
would create any pressure. Any suggestions??

I should really pop for this
1928 THE BENJAMIN AIR RIFLE ST. LOUIS MO ORIGINAL AD - eBay (item 250455965148 end time Jul-25-10 16:08:36 PDT)

frame it and hang on the wall next the rifle--read the description in the ad==really like the part off to the side that says 'Parents Say OK!!'

imagine if you had gotten 10 of them(a whole $50) and put them away in the box--in 1928 that was a pileof $$ but I am guessing you could get $500 each easily today.

445 will be useless as a gun sight.

It is not bright enough in the day and it is too bright at night.
Also, the Arctic is huge and heavy.
Not to mention that the human eye is short-sighted to 445 and it will be blurry at a distance.

Learn how to use iron sights or buy yourself a nice EOtech sight. It will be far more accurate.
If you really must have a laser sight, a 15-50mW greenie or a 200mW red will be far more useful (better divergence and better visibility in all conditions) than 445.
