Re: FS: Star Trek Phaser Parts! 'Hot' Option Available! Or, Individual Parts...
Just got the kit today and went right to work on it. This was my first time doing a laser diode harvest and build and everything went together perfectly. :yh: What an awesome laser! I lit a few matches in the garage with it and blew them out quickly to get a little smoke going. I flipped off the lights and fired the beam against the opposite wall. Beautiful violet beam just like your video!
Jay, the kit was excellent and your machine work and alignment of the EZ Focus adapter was spot on. The beam fired out perfectly parallel with the body of the phaser. Nice job!!
I have to admit I was a bit nervous about harvesting the 12x Blu Ray for a first build. I kept thinking "one small mistake and "poof", b-bye $200." But after spending several hours reading through the threads and watching YouTube videos on how to harvest the diode, it wasn't really that difficult. I just took my time, used a ground strap on my wrist, and used a small alligator clip on the diode leads to serve as a heat sink when I soldered the wires on. The hardest part was pressing the diode into the AixiZ mount. I didn't have a vice, so I used a pair of vice grips, wrapped tape around the jaws, and nudged the diode in a bit at a time until it was flush.
Thanks again Jay for a great build!
Off to go buy some flash paper and black balloons........
