I have found the rectangular artifact is there with all the glass lenses I've tried even a 520nm AR coated 2 element lens. But it is worst with a single aspheric lens like the G-2. With that lens it really stands out. I have sent a couple of Sharp diodes to ElectricPlasma. Including one with the 495nm diode in it. Ask him if he sees the artifact with any of the builds I have sent him. They all had acrylic lenses on them.

Maybe the 2 element AR 520 coated lens I had was a one of a kind, nothing but a buitifull round dot, no splash or square whatsoever with a 488 diode, I can show pics again, or maybe Andrew can pull it out and take some pics as well!
