Hi, up for sale is my compact light weight DIY red burner powered by 1x AA Battery.

Power source: 1x 1.5v AA  8-)
Current to Diode: <220mA using Lithium, 210mA using new NiMH
Driver: Vin 1.3V Iin 770mA, Vout 2.45V Iout 220mA using Lithium
Diode: LG 16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
Dimensions: 90mm x 20mm (3.54in x .78in)
Weight: 51g (1.8oz) with Lit Battery
Runtime: 3.5 hours of Burning Power  8-)based on Energizer Lithium AA Power Graph
http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/l91.pdf
Duty cycle: 120 seconds on 30 seconds off
Price: $85 + $5 shipping within the US

I will include 2 Energizer Lithium AA Batteries that should give you 7 hours of runtime before worrying about additional cost for batteries.

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

What kind of heatsinking are you using ? The other pictures are great, but really do not show the composition well.....what is the heatsink made of - is it solid, etc ?

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

so finally it's available to buyers. good decision, buddy! my colleague mad cow would be thrilled when he returns from africa, hope he wouldn't burn out all his piggy cash during the trip...

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

the info provided are quite detailed, looks like a serious and worthy deal, very tempting

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

So are you saying the output of the laser is 0.7V * 220mA = 154mA? Assuming, of course, the voltage drop across the diode is 0.7V. Thanks.

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

No that is not what he is saying. Sorry to jump in here, but the formula you used will give you the watts. The voltage across the laser diode is 2.45 volts running at 220ma's.

Thanks Gazoo, you beat me to it. ;D

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

you know what, i like the fact that you know what you're doing, and your product is carefully made. one product made elaborately is more appealing than a whole bunch made roughly in a hurry.

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

smoke_nuts, you have a point! an elaborate product with fair price has higher value than a rough product with cheaper price

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

Thanks guys for the kind words. :D

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

unfortunately i don't have the petty cash now, still gotta pay my college loan, car loan...but this one is what i'd die for ... anybody heard about "laser loan"?

Re: FS: Red Burner powered by 1x 1.5v AA

Can the diode be easily changed if it burns out?
Thanks! Chris

Not very easy, see picture. If you keep the duty cycle to 120 seconds on 30 seconds off you should be OK as the Diode is running only at 220mA. :D

Hello Mr. Monk,

Don't suppose you could do it for 40? Just kidding, well, not really if I could. But sending a PM.

Thanks!
