i can't remember the standard size. it's a 12mm bit.

As long as the tail stock is dead center the holes are perfect.

I found out that the metal square that clamps down on these HF 7x10 lathes are not perfect square, and if you don't insert it facing a certain way, it throws your tail stock way off center when you tighten it down.
