FS: Updated Prices Cheap Diffraction Grating Glasses - 2 for $4 SHIPPED!

Well, I bought a lot of diffraction grating glasses, specifically to sell on LPF to those who can't seem to get diffraction gratings cheap. Shipping usually makes the cost not worth it. So, here they are! :) They are double axis, 5,200 lines/in. They are also known as "fireworks glasses". It is awesome to wear them when viewing fireworks. Also, note that in the last picture, it will look like that if you do EITHER: 1. Wear the glasses and point a laser, or 2. Shine the laser through the glasses and look at the wall.

If cutting out rectangles to use as "slides" or whatnot, the measurement of each "eye" lens is approx. 1" x 1.5". So you get two 1" x 1.5" gratings for $3 shipped, or cheaper if you buy more. As to the thickness, I cannot measure that but I do know they are quite thin. They do however hold up fine even with my DIY 80-100mW O-like module Green shining in one spot for 5 full minutes straight. and there wasn't even a SINGLE burn mark.

I just wanted to throw in some info, I have bought these locally in the past to mess with and they hold up OK when used with my old 6X, so you should be safe up to 200mW or so

I got my glasses (plastics?) sometime last week; I was in Shanghai during the time so I can't say exactly when they arrived, but it means a shipping time of a bit more than a week, give or take a few days - absolutely satisfactory. I've already tested them. One use I got them for is for a fireworks display next week; I've also already done two laser experiments with them, which I'll describe in the Experiments section later this week when I've waded through my work backlog and got a bit of free time...

Alex, how did you arrive at the 13,500 lines/inch? As part of my quick experiments I've determined the grid constant to 4870nm, or 5200 lines/inch.
 
Really, they're not 13,500? I bought them as "fireworks" glasses, but I called and asked, "Are these just the same as your 13,500lines/inch diffraction grating glasses, but with fireworks on the sides?" and they said "Yeah". The reason I bought these instead of the diffraction grating ones was because these were cheaper since they say "Town & Country Bank" on them.

Sorry though, I wasn't trying to trick anyone..., I'll change the description. :)

13500 lines/" would be better for spectroscopy, but less useful for laser and visual effects, as the resulting dot grid would become much wider.

Thanks for the experiments Dr. Ebert :) They were very well written, and went in-depth on the mathematical calculations behind them.

Also, another experiment which I can't/won't explain in depth is that you can use two diffraction gratings, and have one stationary/fixed while you manually spin the other one. This will give you the same effect as in this: DealExtreme: $18.72 Kaleidoscopic 30mW Green Laser (Puts on Laser Shows), and it can be done with much bigger and easier to use gratings, so you can experiment with it on any laser pointer.

Also, I'm going away on vacation for a week or so. So if anyone wants diffraction gratings, just PM me and I'll respond in about a week (after I get back, I'm going away again about 5 days later on another cruise, so I may be able to ship between my trips).
 
I have in the meantime used these glasses at a fireworks show. The video doesn't half do them justice; in fact, when watching it, I just kept on thinking "Stop fiddling with the focus, you &^%$#@!" :D (I realise it was just the autofocus which couldn't handle the low-light situation).

Each fireworks star is now accompanied by a set of spectral needles. With the colored stars, these aren't just a continuum, but have bright "beads" along them where the spectral lines from the color-giving element are. A single yellow sodium line, a bundle of red for strontium, or some green ones for copper, et cetera. I watched the whole show through them - great experience! I'll use them next at the hungarian national day fireworks in Budapest...
