Hey everyone this is something I started about 3months ago and it's ready for sale. This is a Linear driver so it takes two 3.7V lithium ion batteries to operate. You new to provide it with 3V+ then your diode takes. So a 3V diode (red, IR) would need at least 6V a blue/445nm would need around 8V. This driver is so inexpensive because it has the LM317. I'm not expecting these to sell crazy fast but for an inexpensive driver they work great! They have reverse polarity protection and voltage ripple protection. They have a great thermal design and dissipate a bit of heat on theyre own but for higher powers it's still recommended to have them heatsinked. They measure at 12mm x 11mm so they are relatively small. And as the title says they are only 3$. It's only because anyone can build this on they're own so I thought I wouldnt be a bad idea to sell them at this price.

Here's a picture of the top of one

So if anyone is interested just reply below or PM me :) Shipping is free within Canada unless you want tracked for international shipping please contact me.

And this is completely LEAD free. RoHs components and LEAD free solder :)

And the best thing is for every sale i will donate 1$ to LPF! I'm really only doing this for the community and I'm hoping this will help people with these prices :)

FOR EVERY DRIVER I HAVE LEFT RIGHT NOW I WILL DONATE 66% to ROB read this http://laserpointerforums.com/f37/all-members-please-read-72009.html

If you'd like to purchase this just send me a PM or go here

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

:beer:AnthoT.
Can the two boards be paralleled together, and how many amps output.

?!
Great job on the size

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

For now I only have 120mA output( meant for PHR 803) and I got 1250mA( for higher power builds) Ill make more outputs of there is enough interest.

Thanks

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

I'll get three just for spares how much shipping to Australia.

PM'ed

And I've only got 2 :( left I sold a few more then expected and shipping would be 7$ for Air Mail which is usually 2-3 weeks as stated by Canada post

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

I am surprised, are you sure that package LM1117 with that small of a resistor can handle 1250mA? I thought that chip can't reach past like 700mA max (and that is with big heatsinking), and those resistors look like low power.

Ya the LM1117 is limited to 700mA.
But This is an LM317 capable of up to 1500mA and this one also needs heatsinking past 900mA. And the resistor works fine it does look really tiny on the picture though but it looks bigger in person ( there is only one those other components are diodes and capacitors ) I've had these tested with no problem as long as you have enough voltage :)

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

AthoT, that's a pretty awesome driver, actually.

But, did you know you can decrease the voltage drop a lot by using an external op amp?...(so that it doesn't drop 3 volts, but more like 1.5, so you can use blues and violets easily?)

If you can make the board double sided, it could go on the blank side!

I could try and help you out if you'd like me to. :D

Interesting I never knew about op amps.

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

This could be a hit at that price, and i do trust linear drivers and i can afford an extra battery for them ;)
What i find missing is the current ranges are too limited..
i think u should atleast consider adding two more to the list..
120mA (phr)
510mA (826)
800~850mA (paralleling two for 1.6~1.8A)
1250 (445LD)

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

Ya I already have these outputs in mind 120mA, 220mA - 260mA, 500mA, 750mA, 800-900mA and 1250mA. I just wanted to see if anyone was still interested in linear drivers before getting all those resistors.
I wanted it to be as affordable as possible and this is actually the best pricing I could do :)

Re: 3$ Linear Driver

Its not about the customers imo.. Its about a contribution to the community, this hobby has grown 3 folds in last 6 months if u ask me!!! i love how people have stood up against certain problems and overcome them , and we now have more access to free sources which was a hightech thing of the past and now its a new standard of lpf.. you are doing a great job!! So get going and do as much as u can do!! ;)

I'm hoping that this is a decent contribution to the community. I just enjoy building stuff .whatever I sell will be pretty much cost for components only. This driver costs 2.26$ to build so I'm selling it for 3$ :)
New resistors ordered :) I'll have 500mA and 820mA added for the next batch :)

Still 2 left
Ill now be donating 1$ from every sale of these to LPF! :D
