I have been building the open can reds from the Sony NEC Optiarc 7190A drives. I have been saving the I.R. diodes. I've got a few of them. Does anybody know if they are good for anything? Worth anything?
Thanks,
Jay

Edit: F.S. From the above mentioned drives, (10) I.R. diodes (still in their heatsinks) for $30 bucks plus shipping. Shipping is $2 bucks to the U.S. - Hopefully, this deal sounds good enough so that if the buyer was to 'mess up' one or two of them, it would be no big deal.

Anybody want these?

I've also have about 4 others from the Pioneer 112D and 115D drives.

Re: I.R. Diodes

yes, they make nice close-range burners emitting around 100mw. what package are they in?

Here's a close up:

It looks like you could peel off the little window on top of the can. This is the only one I took out of its heatsink and tested it. I just lit it up for a couple of seconds at around 60mA's to see if it would light up... It did.
Think anybody would be interested in these?

Yes man, if you have any dead greenies, take out the double coupling crystal and put it in front of the IR diode. There you have it, a green laser. If your IR diode is powerful, you have a gree burning laser! ;D ;D ;D

Uhh, No.

The NIR diode from a cd burner is 780nm, not the required 808nm to pump a green crystal set.

I think you could get about $8.00 + shipping for each diode.

If that's the case, and since I don't want to mess with pulling them out of their little heatsinks and testing them, I would be willing to sell 8 diodes for $50 bucks 10 for $30 bucks plus shipping. (shipping would only be $2 bucks - U.S.) That way, if the buyer messed one or two up, it would be no big deal...

He never said they were NIR

He never said they were NIR[/quote]

He never said that because he DIDN'T KNOW. CD Burner/Player diodes are 780nm, so therefor they are NIR.

How about 10 for $30 buck plus $2 dollars shipping!
