Foxconn to give Chinese workers another pay raise

So sad these workers only made US$130.00 a MONTH working 10 hour days, now they're going to get US$293 a month. Made in China, the people there loose, we as consumers in the west loose, cause companies like Apple exploit them, yet charge outlandish prices for the product, as if they paid real US wages to produce the product. There going to install safety nets so the workers can't jump off the roof to kill themselves?? Wow that place must be hell on earth to work at!

You can't just target Apple, this has been done for many, many years and what's sad is that the countries that are better off won't pay for the increase in product price if the workers earn more.

Unfortunately the world isn't a fair place

The suicide rate at that factory is still lower than the overall suicide rate for the rest of the country. It's a non-story, but it becomes a story because it's a big company.

The people that work there get paid way more than they would at other companies, and that company doesn't just make Apple products anyway.

Of course it's horrible and of course the companies that do business with Foxconn should keep an eye on it, and it's great that employees are getting raises, but it's really a non-story.

For comparison, the last year statistics are available China had ~14 suicides per year per 100,000 people. This factory employees 300,000 people and has had 11 in 6 months. That extrapolates to only about 7 suicides per year per 100,000 people. Below the national average, and not at all a statistical anomaly.
