Found this diode inside a printer

Thanks for the replies. I never knew that some printers charge the toner to create an image on paper. Although I do not know much about this particular diode, I am open to anybody's suggestions on how to power it.


Yep, that's how every laser printer I've ever come across functions and the only way I've ever seen it described to work.
 





The diodes that I got from a laser printer I took apart were 650nm or 660nm. Similar to yours, soldered directly to the circuit, except mine were mounted with plastic. No metal heatsinking what so ever. I haven't pushed any of the didoes past a few tens of mA IIRC, so I don't know how far you can run them.
Oh, an FYI, don't mess with the colored powder ;).

Im probably going to get a low current driver on ebay and guess with this one. I wonder if I can desolder it and place it into a host.
