Thanks for the inspiring works. I'm using my dad's iron, god knows how old it is. Thinking about it, it's over 11 years old because it runs off 110V, back when my family was in the US. (Korea uses 220V.)

I guess it's like a generation hand-me-down items. :crackup:

I find with a lot of old irons is that they were often abused, and over time have oxidized. It helps to use new tips, or at least tips you know that haven't been abused to death. It could even be worth investing in a cheapo 30W iron with a decent tip.

Oh here's a nice tip I read about soldering: after you're done soldering a PCB, go back again and resolder/flow all the connections with your tip. It'll then yield much nicer results as your iron draws away excess solder, or produces a more solid joint. Plus, the devices are already held in place so you don't have to worry about that anymore.
