Hello, i was the guy with this thread

http://laserpointerforums.com/f50/question-about-building-red-laser-74579.html

I have finally got my groove driver (month and a half later of ordering it, and i put it to the test.) WIth all the trouble of soldering small ass parts i finally got it working. I thought i killed my diode when a battery was loose. It turned on then right off, scared me.

The pot is maybe 180 degrees turned from the lowest setting. So very low, Its running off 3 batteries. I dont know any nM, or mW. No one else did either. But this is it.

It burns. and its bright. Do i need safety glasses?

What do ya think. I dont want to go further with it until i get some expert advice.

If it burns you definitely need eye protection. If not, your eyes may be damaged from specular reflections.

What kind of safety glasses do i need, doesnt the nm matter which i do not know what it is?

Where did ya get the diode?
Some one here could tell the nm if you post where you got it.
From a sled? From a website?

Then once you find out the nm of the diode you used , you look up the safety goggles for that nm.

No one knew what it was. and it was about two years ago i removed the sled from the bay. So all i had was the sled.

This is what it is but i couldnt find any diode specs.

Im running it off of 3AA batteries. When i turn the pot i see no difference. But it does burn. Do i need more voltage to see the differnce?

with a groove i think you do. it's a linear driver with a hefty Vf. you need like 5v or more to run a red diode. make a test load too so you can set the current. once you give the driver more v that pot will matter.

Im going to line up two lithium 3.7v batteries here soon. I dont have a test load though. Im unsure where to get one or even make one. I looked a while ago when I was buying the driver, no luck.

can't be sure if it's dead or not. how are you powering it? a test load is just a series of diodes and a 1 ohm resistor. seek and you will find....

This was with three AAA batteries when i first made it. Pot all the way down.

I just used 7v and its still dim
