Few hours ago i bought a lg 22x dvd burner, after 1 hour trying to harvest the diode finally i made it, i did not know that this module has a LOC but fortunately i didnt damage the LD, i put it in a 1/2" copper module (jayrob's module) with 405-G-1 glass lens, at this time i dont have a driver, but i'm using a electronic transformator outputing 450 ma @ 3v, and with a resistor of 3 ohms 200ma @ 3v, the regulator is a voltage regulator :/

at 200ma and well focused it burns pretty good :D

the beam profile have a similar kind of line present in the 445's A140 LD D:

i take some bad quality pics, i need a better cam :/... some pics are at 450ma at 3v and others at 250ma, i dont know how much mw was outputing at that currents...

Re: First Laser build and first red

Good work with what you have at hand. Be careful driving it at 450mA! That's not exactly a safe current, looks like jayrob's copper module is giving you excellent heatsinking for it to survive that.

Re: First Laser build and first red

Wow. Honestly, I'd say keep us updated on how long that lasts at that current. I'd love to have a red that had that much output. So far I haven't seen many single diodes push 300mW out...

Can you give us the model of the LG burner? I'd like to check this diode out...

Re: First Laser build and first red

the device model is gh22ns30 LG, i bought 2 for 54 USD, 1st killed at 450ma it run for a while at that current, 2nd stable at 450ma for several minutes with proper heatsinking

so i think that i did damage the first LD in the harvest process.
i was running the ld for aprox 2 hours in 450ma at duty cycles of 10mins (On) aprox.
and for a 3 hours at 300ma at duty cycles of 30-20-40 min aprox.

here a video in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrmwVJUnDO4

Re: First Laser build and first red

whered you buy them from?
just curious on how you bought them and got it made so quickly...was it a local shop?

Re: First Laser build and first red

TTerbo, yes in a local shop they have it in stock 27 usd each :) (in Santiago, Chile)

my build have an accident, when i was playing with the sleds optics a reflection beam was directly in the laser output, result in an instant COD :( i was driving the laser at 150ma

it stop high outputing instantly, then it seems like a 5mw laser pointer :/
i take of LD from the heatsink put it directly to 1.05 A at 4.5 V and it start to get warm warm warm but not dead, really hard to kill LD, it take arround 2 minutes without heatsink at that current to start to turn off his light D:

i'm waiting for a round of lpc-815 :D

Do you know the 405-G-1 Len is Not for Red Laser?

The 650-G-1 len is for red.

That might have caused problem also with your diodes.

yeah, i kwnow, but at this time its the only lens that i have..... i'll try 650-g-1 with the lpc-815.... may be the 405-g-1 kills the LD with the percent of reflection in the laser cavity, the LD was an unprotected and delicated LOC
