Alright, so I originally had purchased the LEDshoppe 50mW laser pen but I canceled because I didn't really want to wait around 2 weeks for a greenie. I decided to grab a cheap 5mW laser off of ebay for around 10$. Well, I got it in the mail today and its GREAT, I can see the beam in pretty well lighted conditions and its amazing at night.

It has me worried though, I've heard of ebaysers coming really overspecced every once in awhile and I didn't think you could see a normal 5mW's beem in daylight.

Do you guys think this laser is overspecced? The dot is really really bright, almost too bright to look at. It looks just like the LEDshoppe pens.

Please let me know, this is my first laser and won't be my last!

It's probably 20+. What seller did you buy it from? "Salostore" sold me a 5mW laser, which was at least 20mW.

I bought from girl_honest. I figured 12 bucks was a good deal to not have to wait 2 weeks from china. I really like the pointer, its nice. Can't wait for my dilda to come in the mail!(o-like)

I find it ironic that on eBay you can often times spend $200 on a "200mW" laser, or spend $20 on a "5mW" one and end up with the same laser in the end.

Its only 200mw if they gurantee it and if it's not they replace it if not its not 200mw.

Thats the rule on E-bay lasers.

Anyone else have to re-read that a few times and get a brain-ache?

I can't understand it Xd

Anyway, you won't get a 200mW CLEAR GREEN LIGHT from cheap china green laser pointer with pumping diode of about 200-250mW power.

NO...the rule on EBAY is NO LASER POINTER OVER 5mw....paypal doesn't cover it and you aren't protected if you get ripped off purchasing one over 5mw

Easier version:

"It's only 200mW if they garuntee it, and if they don't replace it, it's not 200mW.

;D

When I ran across this thread, I decided to see for myself if girl_honest's $12 green lasers were really a good buy. I've only had red lasers besides the PHR-803T I'm building.

Even taking into consideration that green should appear 6x brighter than red to the eye, it is quite bright, so maybe it is tuned to more like 15-20mw.

Some faint diffraction rings, but not bad. The dot shape is fairly close to round. By my measurement the beam divergence is roughly 1.2mRad (around 1.9mm at point blank, 2.25mm at 1 meter). The brightness does step up after about ten or fifteen seconds, and sometimes the power varies somewhat (might just be the batteries, I can hear them moving around a bit when that happens). It's almost too bright to look directly at the dot cast onto white objects within a few feet of me. I got temporary spots in my vision like when glimpsing the sun for a second. Of minor note-the diode assembly isn't quite aligned with the long axis of the pen.

I'm impressed with the power output and the beam quality given the low price. I'll be interested to see how long it lasts.
