First car help!!

4x4's like gas. Also, gas is becoming liquid gold. Get ya an older bmw. They are tons of fun, fairly indestructible, and pretty decent on gas. Nothing better than some german engineering!

4runners are the way to go! (as you can tell by my avatar :shhh:) mine has the 2.4 liter 22re and those are bulletproof engines that will go well over 200,000 miles. gas issue isn't too bad of a problem (mid 20's on freeway), but if you want to go for a first or second gen 4runner, avoid the 3.0 as they are slow, have horrible gas mileage, and blow headgaskets! get the 2.4 if your going for oldschool, if not, then the 3.4 from the 3rd gen kick ass!

If he is a youngin, I would get something good on gas. Toyota Camry's are extremely reliable and have a pretty phat engine. I know they are commonly used as swaps in Scion TC's for their power. With 6k though, you have some wiggle room. I would look into an Acura RSX. That is what I have my eyes on ATM.

Also if you can find a Honda Civic, with a B or K series motor, I would say go with it. Always make sure they the person has the title because MANY people on criagslist and such steal the Civics. If you see things like "Your Driveway", or "Will meet up", as an address, it is commonly stolen. One time the guy I contacted did not have the title, So I asked for the VIN to look up it's history and I never heard from him again. Just be careful.

My first car was a 97 Camry. Its still the best car I've ever owned, and to date its still the oldest, and highest mileage car I've ever owned.

A 4Runner, Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser, Honda Element, and just about any Subaru can take you off roading!

You forgot about Nissan Pathfinders. Those things are Tanks. Toyota Pickups are also Superb IMO

I do enjoy the old toyota trucks, but to me, the new toyotas are a bit bland for my tastes. Plus I feel that they are not built the same way they were back in the 80's and 90's. Toyotas may still be great vehicles, but they are not over engineered like they once were imo.

Too much rice in this thread. Say NO to crappy civics/camry's. If you wanna go import get yourself a used german car. A used American SUV/jeep can also be a good option, but make sure the car has a good transmission and no critical engine issues. Those are the two things that can really cost you if they go. Also make sure any older car you get has good O2 sensors. Those frequently start going bad at 80K+ and can really ruin your gas mileage when they do. Also get it a tuneup/change the spark plugs and other general maintenance.

Don't go all fanboy. Ps3 and Xbox 360 have the same damn graphics. If the Man has a brain and realizes gas is ridiculous, he will be smart and get an import that is good on mileage until he can afford a bigger vehicle. I think it's funny you be hatin' when Camry's have won SOOO many awards, same with Civics.

Also good intake Filter and exhaust is more important than plugs. German repair costs are extremely expensive in comparison to Imports as well, I would have to say that is not the best advice.

Hell get a Ford Ranger. They are great off-roading, and good on the road. I own two and I love them. Good Luck

Too much rice??? Rice is where its at granted its not a honda lol..

Toyota is the way.. Bulletproof engines, and drivelines.

To the OP, if you want 4x4 and reliable look at the FJ series or BJ42
Toyota Landcruisers. Great to work on, lots of aftermarket and they are tanks..

BJ42 diesels are rare in the US, but their FJ gas brothers are not as hard to
find..

Gear ratio in low in sick and perfect for crawling. Jeeps are tin cans..

The only jeeps I ever liked were the 40's, 50's & 60's willys jeep.

Or if an 800hp daily driver is a bit more your thing, you can save up
for a nice Supra :san:

+1 for the Ranger. Not too fuel hungry and they're good for just about everything you might want.

Yeah civics/Camry's are great...If you want a super boring car that everybody else has. It gets you from point A to point B. Not too much in the thrills or showoff department unless of course you rice the car out with a 4 inch muffler and big spoiler(at which point everyone secretly laughs at your wanna-be car behind your back).

You want a good FAST Toyota, Get a Scion Tc. They have more Tq than HP, Lol

Also, if he has money for the Supra.. Actually We know he doesn't lol. And I sure as hell hope it wouldn't be his first car.
