Hey guys!

I was wondering if you could help me where I could go to find a diode. I know that I can get them online, but i'd prefer to get them from maybe a Blu-Ray driver, DVD-drive or extract it from a computer...problem is, those might be expensive and I'm not entirely sure how to just find any of the above that are broken, for a cheap price (I'm on a low-budget here :(), to extract something from.

If anybody could help me find one, that would be great! Thanks!

well for starters, you will be more likely to get help if you stop posting the same question all over the forum and just wait for help.

second... go look in the buy/sell/trade section, and the laser pro shop. Duh!!!

Actually, if you would actually read my post and not just the title, you would see it's not the same question. Just saying.

Actually its the same exact question.....

I know a little bit about what a Diode does for the laser and I know a little bit of where to get some and a little on how to extract them...but like let's say I need to get another and I don't want to buy it online, where can I go and get one from like a broken DVD drive, etc?

It'd be great if some of these questions could be answered! Thanks in Advance!

go to computer repair shops and ask for broken DVD drives. Drives go bad because the bearings in the motors wear out. Everything else in there works fine.

DVD readers will have a 5mw red diode in them. DVD burners will probably have higher powered red diodes. Both will have a shortwave IR laser diode as well for reading and writing CDs.

They will also have interesting optics like a PBS and a dichroic mirror or two.
