feeler for my mini lab style heatsink's

the fins on any heatsink are usually a lot thinner than these, to get a good design for a heat sink , check out your video card or CPU and you'll see there are tons of fins and smaller width on the fins.

these heat sinks look pretty cool but I think since you're manufactuering them you could make them as efficient as possible and better than the cheapo DX heat sinks (which are pretty good).

I'm not sure how all the physics work out but as much surface area as possible is what I'm looking for.

good luck,
Kendall

you could put a small tec under my heatsink sideway's . if i made it multi-piece it would cost more . more parts=more cost. i have ran a phr @110ma for 24hr's and the temp was fine same for a newwish <50mw green . a loc @430ma did get very warm about 90 deg f after 30 min's . i could make this sink the coolest most universal heat sink ever made but take a guess @ what that would cost ::) . i was just try'n to help out those who do not have the mean's to make there own heatsink's for there scanner and spiro project's . i am very happy with my design fit's my spiro perfect ;D

i've droped the price on these to 33.00 usd . i don't have to buy the milling bit's anymore . if you are intrested in buying one or more of these post up . before i make more i'd like to know how many to make. last time i made 11 and they were gone in one day . i don't want to make 20 and sell 3 :( or make 20 and sell out and have none left for those that want them . i'll give this 2 more week's

First, as has been pointed out, few people want an advanced mount, and fewer want to fork out cash. Those of us who remain in the "interested" category, are often looking for more advanced stuff, which tends to be custom, which I'm sensing most do themselves. If you want to make money, or even just reach the breakeven point, you will probably have to open a webshop, because hobbyists aren't where the money is at, except if you make or stock diodes and greenies.

Now, on to the more constructive bits, if you'll pardon the pun:

Design input:

- A recess of 12.7mmØ in front of the lens allows windows and filters.
- Shorten the length to half- only the head part needs cooling.
- Mill a recess under the mount for a 20x20mm TEC.
- State metric and imperial units.

You might be interested to know that some 20x20mm 7W TECs are available on eBay now for like $3/ea or so. If you will be using the active cooling route later, you could stock up and offer interested parties (e.g. me) to ship with the TEC mounted (best results for me have been obtained by polishing both surfaces using thermal adhesive and then clamping until the adhesive hardens).

Those TECs will easily bring a regular diode down below the dew point, even if a driver were to be heat sinked to the mount, hence the suggestion of a 12.7mmØ (1/2") recess, as windows to protect from moisture are reasonably available at low prices in that size (a size which is pretty common for most optics).

Lots of other stuff you could do, but it all requires work, and in the end, there aren't many potential customers for a standard mount that is more complex than simply sticking an AixiZ in a flashlight. Suggestions for anything tricky aren't well received; it's a hobby for most, not an art. The only request I've seen voiced on a more regular basis, is for a more circular beam, which takes a fiber or expensive lenses. Not conceptually complicated, but precision work and extra parts.

For what it's worth, if you can do lens nut threads, I would be interested in two smaller blocks on the same plate, spaced about 5mm apart, with threads for one AixiZ glass lens in each. That's usable as a (very) primitive projection microscope or spatial filter right there, in case you're wondering.

So, two more potential orders there, but both deviate from the design you have.

Perhaps set up a web shop, build prototypes of various ideas, estimate costs, and put the pictures up on the page with the specs and drawings, then make them as orders come in? Offer to do minor customization for a surcharge? I've really no idea how much money you need to recuperate, and don't know that market, so I couldn't say if it's worthwhile.

Just 2 cents.

thank's for the imput suiraM :) i didn't design /make these to make a profit . i made them for my self and offered to make more if people on this forum needed something like this . i also asked for imput on design and have made some new design's based on that imput . this run is dead those who got a few of them are happy thas good enuff for me . i will be making a new model when i get around to it . i'll make a run and if people here like it and want it they can buy/trade me for them until they run out . i wish i had more time to deticate to this it's alot of fun making something from nothing dtmf .

here's a newwish green in the heatsink . you may have to lightly sand the outside of the module for a good fit . this is not the same module in that link
