FEELER: 638nm Mits.300 & Mits.500 diodes for 39$ & 78$ a piece

I think I am going to get a S06J. I want a good looking spot, power, beam visibility(I just want to be able to see it at all at night), and i only have low wavelength safety glasses. What is the max current I should power it at? Yes DTR, here comes another order ;)

Edit: sorry for thread-jacking.

Just so you know: beam visibility will be many many times better with the 638nm, of course you should have safety glasses for all wavelengths that you work with... 405nm is at the very edge of human sight and visual response for it is about three hundred times lower than for 638nm red; a mitigating factor for this is that Rayleigh scattering works much better for lower wavelengths, which will help you see the violet beam at night. A red beam of equivalent power however will still appear much brighter.

For powering an S06J make sure you use a driver with a stable output; and it's probably best to keep it under 500mA; am I right guys?

I will get it right out to you but it sounds like you want it all. Please realize that is the trade off. You pretty much get either a very visible beam with bad beam specs or a less visible beam with great beam specs and power density(burning ability). I am still waiting for that single mode 589nm 2W diode myself.:D

Now the 405 is visible at night just nothing like the 445 or 635 would be.

DTR, thank you for the excuse to finally use this emoticon:
:lasergun:
(though, since I have to nitpick: it should be yellow. and thinner...) :p

Of course I want it all, who doesnt? Anyways, I have a 445 and I am working on my second build right now (PL450). I am sticking to lower wavelengths as of now, I will move on after I am finished with these and then the 500 Mitsubishi will be my next build(after the S06J). DTR, can you verify that 500mA is what one of those should be run at?

I suggest 450mA but people do drive them to 500mA and higher. That is you choice.;)
