Follow up;

I took the initiative to rewire the lamps today. To my surprise; two switch boxes switch the HOT line on each end, and one switch box switches the NEUTRAL line in the middle. Additionally, four conductor cable and two conductor cable are used randomly throughout with no seeming rhyme or reason. To top it all off, power is fed in through TWO POINTS, at one end, and at the center tap. Thankfully both points are on the same breaker.

I used the existing wiring in a different arrangement, and replaced all the switches with outlets, and the fixtures with locally switched fixtures. At least it is electrically safe now and each fixture sees the full mains potential.
