External Battery Holder

Hi, I went to my local Science and Surplus store and for 1$ bought a battery holder that holds 3 AAA Batteries. A Red and Black wires are attatched, and I do not know where to put them. I'm assuming one around the spring, and the other somewhere metal for a ground?

We have no idea what you are hooking up to the 4.5V
(regular 1.5V batteries) or 3.6V (rechargeable batteries)...:undecided:

Red is positive and Black is Negative of the Battery holder
if you place the batteries into it correctly...

Assuming you are using this external battery to power a driver, you solder the black wire (-) to Vin (-) and Red wire (+) to Vin (+) on the driver.

*edit*: but as Jerry said, we don't even know what kind of batteries you are using or what you are powering. We need more information.

We do know how the 3xAAA battery holder look like. The red wire is battery plus and black wire is battery minus.
The question is where do you want to put the wires to ?

i saw somebody with a similar setup; that put the red on the spring of the driver..and the black on metal, and they got it to work but i can't

What is your driver ? Maybe the voltage of 3x AAA isn't enough for the driver to power the laserdiode.

The driver is a grab bag mystery piece, I am trying to somehow see if it still is active

Generally speaking, looking at the back of the driver, the positive (+, red) wire goes to the spring, and the negative (-, black) wire goes to the metal ring that isn't attached to the dot that the spring is attached to. It should be the only other shiny metal plating on that side of the driver board.

I was under the impression that the "spring" on the driver... as is the case with all other battery operated appliances is the negative contact... ie: the "-" of the battery goes to the spring... therefore... if you are attaching the red wire to the spring you are doing it wrong and are reversing the polarity... BLACK wire to spring should fix your problem

Yeah, lasers are backwards for some reason. :thinking:

I was assuming the OP was talking about using a flashlight driver for driving a laser diode, but we all know about assuming; it makes an ass out of u and ming.
