so I watched the short documentary on Netflix about the Pizza Collar Bomb bank robbery in Erie Pennsylvania back in 2003. I was very young when this happened so of course i dont recall any of it. I have to say this was a very fascinating Documentary.
has anyone seen this Documentary or actually remembering it happening?

I don't recall that particular robbery and I was plenty old enough to remember it. My daughter was 19 years old when this happened. She doesn't remember anything about it either.

Hi All:

I haven’t seen the documentary, but remember this bizarre incident. IIRC, a guy committed a robbery while wearing a collar bomb locked around his neck. The police apparently didn’t believe his story that he was held hostage by a gang forcing him to complete the robbery to prevent the neckbomb from detonating. The bomb had a timer, which killed him instantly when it reached zero. I believe there were a plethora of theories such as it being an elaborate robbery scheme where he was a willing participant, or that it was a suicide. Eventually several people were incarcerated or committed suicide. Imagine if it had happened in today’s 24-hour news cycle and social media!! Thanks, and Take Care.

Yep, year 2000 feels like yesterday to me also. Remember, that's when the Y2K bug shut down computers and computer networks, and thd word ceased to exist as we knew it.

I was stock piling food, now I'm fat, it's all because of that fear....yea, that's why I'm fat and I'm sticking to it!

that's so crazy, I have actually asked some people that I work with that are in their 40s and they don't recall this happening either. I think I was 13.

I haven't seen the documentary, nor have I ever heard of this robbery before, I'll have to check it out.
yeah its pretty good :) youll have to

I seem to remember something about this.
It made the news here if memory serves me right.
Fascinating, I'll have to check it out now.
Thanks for the heads-up Richie.
you totally should

yeah no kidding! the way things are now people on the other side of the planet would hear about it within hours or even minutes.

Ha! You are still very young if saying that, 2003 not that long ago :P

I don't remember it either.

lmao yeah im only 28 but I feel like im 60 thanks to my back. 4 wheeler crash when i was younger :(
"now I'm fat"

Sounds about right. I can see the police not believing the guy. Then, after he dies, they speculate that he was a suicide or accomplice as they don't want to look like the dick heads that they are. No one left to argue the poor guy's innocence.

Did the money blow up too with the poor mans head?:can:
no I think the money was in the car. 8000 bucks. that would have gotten a pretty nice DPSS system :na:

yeah youre right, its sad :undecided:

Remember reading about it a long time ago, and have seen it as a plot device in movies/shows lots of times. Will give it a watch.

As crazy bank robberies go, the North Hollywood shootout definitely had the most lasting impact. Lots of movies and documentaries about it too.

While it's crystal clear that the war on drugs, and surplus military equipment sales/ incentivized give-aways led to police militarization, imho it was the north hollywood shootout that acted as a catalyst for police departments to actually really arm themselves for war.
