Enough reading and searching ... Will this work?

First build and I'm hoping it will be a good and learning experience.

I'm in the think-tank and trying to finalize my build / parts decisions. Someone please correct any mistakes I have before I buy too much more stuff.

Here's the shopping list with a couple of enclosed questions:

- PHR-803T (Found a good deal so thought I'd try it)

- rkcstr "Micro-Drive"
(bought it long time ago just to make sure I had it when I needed it)

- AixiZ module (Just basic optics and stuff for now to keep price down)

- HOST = http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4171 (Here is where the questions start.) Can I run the Micro-Drive mentioned above on the 2x 3.6v CR123s? Or do I need to get a form factor that will hold the 3x AAA like http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3405 in order to get the voltage up with the addition of the extra AAA cell?

Now the questions on batteries:

- Protected or non-protected
- Rechargable is ok, right?
- With each of the above mentioned hosts, there are so many different models of each battery size. I need recommendations as to exactly which model number to use or SKU on DX.

Any and all opinions or answers would be great.

Thanks again everyone for all of the great info. I'm sure in the next month or so, I'll be asking a couple more questions as I try this for the first time.

First items are fine, other than you are not showing a heatsink (maybe you are making your own).

I have done it both ways, but with 3 X 10440 3.6v rechargables instead of AAA batteries as they won't give you enough voltage. Easiest is 2 X rcr123A in the MXDL host IMO.

Definately rechargables, protected or not is your choice, personally I use unprotected.

Yes, I will be making my own heatsink .. lol I'm a machinist. But thanks for noticing. I thought about adding that in the last edit.

Ok, let me get this straight, just a little vague still. (And yes, I know ... I was saying "AAA" just for a size reference) 2x RCR123A will be enough input voltage for the RKCSTR driver to power a PHR-803T? Just making sure. I'm really wanting to use the MXDL 4171 from DX.

Those batteries are nominaly 3.6v, 2 of them will be right on the edge of the required voltage for the Rkcstr drive, the good thing is that fully charged they give around 4v so plenty of power, just keep them well charged.

I have a number of nominaly 7.2v builds and they work fine.
