YES... they couldn't be any stronger... these 660nm babies are specced up to 350mW!!!! :o :o :o :o

Ok, here's the deal... They're one hell of a steal and at that much power, these things should make some wacky burners. With enough cooling and some decent power, you can put out up to 350mW of massive burning power out of these things. Now, I do believe these things can be placed in a flashlight and run at 200mW with some regular heat sinking as what we usually do. But to wind it up to 350mW, I REALLY suggest some very good heat sinking procedures like thermal paste and a large heat sink. These babies have a 35% duty cycle at 350mW and 100% duty cycle at 200mW!!!!! :o :o 8-) 8-)

Now... I am just trying to gauge the interest in this. The fact that we all got our fill of SenKat's wonderful and steal-priced diodes already (all 350 diodes so far ;D, Thanx SenKat) might hinder the progress of this GB really. But here is what I am expecting...

I am hoping to get enough interest to be able to drop the price that I have been offered here. These are not cheap, so... here goes

$50 each shipped, and can drop to possibly below $40. :D

Obviously, these things will drop in price the more orders we get in, so for those interested, please let me know so I can get a much better picture of the interest in these little beauties.

Thank you all;
DDL

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

count me as #1.

few questions though:

1- beside mW; how do these lasers differ from SenKats? (color, size, blah blah blah...)

2- any spec sheet, or can yopu give us a link to a similiar diode avaliable online?

let us know!

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

Im in are thay 5.6 or 9mm or like a c mount (Its just there is a c mount like that in thorlabs cat)
How many do you need?

Also maby you could look at a group buy for an APC driver to suite

Also CW, quasi-CW

Cheers Reuben

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

I'll be in for one when the time comes to pay up. It just has to be about 2 weeks from now, I spent too much of this last paycheck on my x105 that is coming. I can't wait!

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

Definitly interested.

Can you drive them with a LE of a flashlight?

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

Yeah, I'm also wondering what form factor and all. Most importantly though: single or multi mode? Hopefully you can get us a spec sheet? If that checks out I may be interested in a few, but $50, or even $40 is getting pretty steep. Not sure I can't buy too many.

Any ballpark figures on how many units you need to secure what prices?

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

I might be interested at the $40 price level, depends a bit on how finicky these will be to drive (and cool) reliably though.

What are these things made for anyway? Really fast dvd writers, or some other application?

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

Follow-up to answer all the questions:

The diodes are 200mW CW 100% duty cycle. 350mW at QCW at 35% duty cycle.
They are 660nm (red), just like the SenKat group buy diodes... just much more powerful!
They are in a 5.6mm closed CAN package.
As far as I know, they are single-mode diodes, and I will check with the supplier now and report back as soon as something comes up. They are meant to be used for optical discs and the such, so they should ultimately have a nice beam spec.
The price is inclusive of everything for 50 or more units. I am still trying to pull the price down a little more so that we can go on with it with perhaps 30 sales... maybe?
These diodes can easily be driven using any of the other flashlights we use in all the other projects. An LM317 circuit, or the one that I am working on right now (3V supply) will be more than sufficient.
I will get a hold of the original spec sheet soon (still waiting), and will let you all know. As of right now, they seem to me to be like these ones but with a higher CW output.

I was told that 240mA/2.4V drive they output 150mW of optical power, and that is their 50% mark. :D
They do not have a photodiode inside.

That is pretty much all I know about them. If anyone is interested, I will begin to populate and update my above post with interest until we reach anything above 30 orders. 50-100 orders will give me the negotiating power that I hope will secure a final price of $40 or lower. But, as of yet, everything is simply trying to force the seller to cave in and trust that I would be making further sales in the future :-?

Thanx;

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

If the price came down I'd be interested buddy. Wouldn't mind turning it into a lab beam!... or two of them ^_^

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

I *may* be interested in one.

The "datasheet" of the recent GB LD from Senkat showed the SLD1236VL as a 16x diode with a development trend of 2004.

We are now 2007 and 18x and 20x DVD burners can be had fairly inexpensively. Now that these faster burners are out, the cost for the LDs for the "slower" drives should have dropped. Anyone have any other thoughts on this?

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

At the current price, probably 2 @$50 or 3 if $40 is reached. Quick question- would these fit into the Axiz module as the Senkat diodes do? (EDIT: Looked up the specs of the Senkat diodes. Same 5.6mm form factor, so looks like they will).

Thanks,
Jon

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

chimo, I just wanted to let you know that these are about the same thing as you would get from a 20X DVD burner, maybe a bit more powerful. Although, unlike the ones we would salvage from the burner itself, these are closed can, known specs, and come with nice long leads. I have personally found out, as many others recently have because of SenKat's GB, that the leads make the job a decade easier! ::) :D

joniverson, these are identical to the diodes that you would get get from SenKat, with the exception of them being a ton more powerful. ;)

Thanx;
DDL

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

I had posted the following recently and this diode isn't even in full production yet:

The highest cw red diode I have been able to find that is made in a standard 5.6mm package is 150mw.

http://global.mitsubishielectric.com/news/news_releases/2007/mel0684.pdf

A sample is only $250.00 if anyone cares to order one..

I would need to see a spec sheet posted from the manufacturer, and know a little more as to how the supplier is selling so cheap to you before I would commit to this group buy.

Daedal, I am not doubting you or anything of that nature. I already sent you funds for the LPM-1, so you know I trust you. And I don't know how well you know this supplier. But if this deal can be proven, I would be in for at least one...depending on price. I would also suggest you get a sample from the supplier. Hopefully it would have the model number printed on the diode. If not, perhaps you could send the diode to someone for testing. You could also contact mitsubishi to confirm they have this diode.

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

Gazoo, that Mitsubishi link you have is for a 640nm LD - isn't this one a 660nm? Mitsubishi's claim may still be accurate due to the significant difference in wavelengths.

Re: ** FEELER **  PHASER diodes!

Irregardless, there is no spec sheet for the one Daedal is offering posted on their website, and there is no mention of it in their news releases. Therefore, I would like for Daedal to clear this up with more info. I'm not saying it isn't real, and again I am not doubting Daedal...I will jump on this deal in a heartbeat once Daedal answers my questions, and can set a firm price. I am almost certain Daedal will be able to, because he would not be offering this if he could not, and I hope so because I would love to be able to order a couple of these with full confidence in this deal ;)
