Hi,
i purchased this Vape mod from harold, He made it for his wife that had no interest in it. You might've seen it for sale a while ago, so i snagged it . I took it apart to make a 510 module build . One of A.Barnetts A140's will take this build over. More pics to come later of the complete build.

Rich:)

I have always liked the 510 set ups for the ease of changing heads. I really like that mod too!!
Are those focus knobs glued together or do you have a rod holding them together? I like that idea as I have a bunch of knobs gathering dust?

hi,
This build will be a permanent 510 mod , but you still can break it down. As for the focus rings yes i use 4 small dots of super glue to hold them together. You can glue as many as you like to extend them. Will post more pics when finished.

Cool build Rich! Glad to see even after Ehg left the forum his items are still popping up in our builds ;)

That's one of those things where all the parts and pieces are there, got glue and plenty extra focus rings, but never seem to have thought to put the two together. I have a couple lasers that I didn't want to cough up $10 for the extended and this is easy fix.

I was thinking of grabbing a couple of the 510s from DTR since I have a couple lower power diodes on the way and being able to use a single host for multiple lasers is appealing to me. They look great too!

Hi Elec,
Yes i remember when it was up for grabs and no sale. So i took all the vape stuff off , As the pics shows i drilled and tapped a 4-40 set into it . when i finish it i won't have to screw and turn the wires . Just made the center hole larger one wire soldered a set crew it on. i have quite a few of his hosts, at one time just kept stocking up, who knew he would go MIA.Thanks for the reply Pal..

Hi CK,
You can't 2,3,4 together for the length you want and they look good to. Yea i agree 10 bucks is a little steep for a focus knob that small. I even get the paid markers from Wal mt. and paint them to the desired WL color with a few coats. I had about 4 -510's sitting on the work area so i might as well go for it. thanks again for looking .

Rich:)

Oh buy the way i have a thread in the 445 section about how well these A140's are holding up you would be surprised for the price. Very affordable diodes and clean . this guy has great prices on diodes to check it out.

Lifetime- great work man!! I like the host/510 combo, if I didn't know any better I would have thought the host was built like that right off the lathe!! I have been trying to think of different projects that I can incorporate ABarnetts A140s since they are almost dirt cheap. Either way at those prices there's alot of fun to be had since if I were to kill one, meh oh well..

Hey where do you get your diode sockets at if you don't mind me asking? All of the ones I have bought and have been looking at lately seem to be alot bulkier than the one in your pic. I have been using some old school transistor sockets for testing and they do work, but are too bulky.

Hi Kirk,
I Try all different ways to make a build work, In this case i like the idea of drill and tapping the 510 for the ground wire . There's not much room to slide the wire between the 12mm and the sink i keep shearing the wire or a few strands are left holding it in. When i tried to screw the 510 into the host his threads were binding and didn't want a cross thread on th 510 module . So i drilled out the host threads a little and also drilled and tapped the host for 2- 4-40 set screws.

Barnett A140's are great don't know how long they will last like you said for the price i',
m good with that, and they are tough.

As for the diode sockets i get all my stuff from Thore Labs they have the right items for the job. Like you said again i seen some other sockets but they looked to big and bulky. These fit great into the fan cooled heatsink for testing with the PSU. I have all 3 socket sizes 3.8mm,5.6mm,9mm all work great and i use a 24AWG wire with heat shrink, they stay nice and rigid that way.I hate to keep soldering and unsoldering the wire to the pins, this way the pins stay nice and clean..
Well good luck with your 510 builds i'm happy to see i could shine some light on the subject Kirk..

Rich:)
