The fundamental problem is NUBM44s have poor beam quality --high divergence, so power up close not far away.
Can be corrected to an extent for time, trouble and $s to do but is also a "can't make a silk purse out of sow's ear" catch 22 sort of thing.
Has been done by two members that I know of--maybe more .
Perhaps some other members can chime in about similar builds.
Not a simple build, a bit on th epic side and beyond most hobbyists capabilities but doable/possible.
RedCowboy is a big "burning" enthusiast and has tried a lot of different builds--his advice is experienced advice.
