Dying Diode, what do i do?

Hey guys, my SAIK-305 build is dying (the diode) and i was wondering. Is it OK to wait for it lo LED completely. Will the driver be affected? Or should i remove the diode now?

The diode has already gone out almost completely, a couple times. It seems like there is something loose inside the can of the diode. What could it be?

PS its a 9mm nichia 445nm @ 2.4 amps (shouldnt be LEDing at that current :( esp at super short duty cycles in a saik...)
 





Well, i'm not sure if the driver will be damaged if it LEDs but, if it is already way on the downhill, just take the driver out. is it really worth it to push it to the bitter end?
 
Naw, It originally put out 2.6 watts on my blufan 5 watt. When i tried it after a comparison, it only gave 1.5 watts. The raw output of the diode proves that the diode is dying. The bars on the outside flicker and the output keeps changing after periods of time, (1.5 watts, 2 watts, 600mw (YES), 1.2 watts)
 
Did you check your batteries? when the bars on the outside of big rectangle flicker and fade away over time it could be a battery problem.

Do then come back when you turn it again after some time or after you charged the batteries?

IMO I would leave it even if its dying a 1.5W laser is better than none Maybe it stays there or drops very slow
When you push it out it maybe dies physically
1.5W would be a m140 worth 50$ you will lose then and your 50$ you can buy a beautiful laser host

I already mentioned what you should do, in your last thread about this. To be honest, you shouldnt have opened a new thread about the same issue...

If the diode dies the driver will be fine.:beer:

Maybe your driver is dying. If the diode is damaged, it wouldn't work again afterwards. Or did you mean something different by "The diode has already gone out almost completely, a couple times"?

PS: diode is technically only rated for ~1.7A, assuming it is actually what people say it is, a NDB7875.
 
Your diode probably partially zombied on you. I have seen this aswell. The output will vary depending on temperature and driver current. Mine got worse the longer it was on. Eventually the diode died.. Driver should be fine.

Do you have a Lab style adjustable power supply? If you do you can just set the current and slowly raise the voltage to test the diode.
 
Nah, a LEDd diode wont damage a driver. Usually a LEDd diode wont pass current? Anyways if i were you, i'd just wait for it to die and when it does simply swap it :)

I meant inefficient as in it coudnt handle the current.
