Wow this is an interesting theory to work with. I'm sure you guys can come up with something though. Try out thrift shops and garage sales for a phone. I know next time I'm near one I'm going to take a look and find out about this. Maybe even mount a phone with a luxeon 1 watt led! Fight the system!

Yea this is true, too bad I cut my phoneline a year or 2 ago.
Btw, maybe that LM317L he uses can take more than 70V? :-/ Or maybe it can just take more than it's rated at as long as you don't get too close to the max 1.5A current.
