So when i try to use my DX <5mW (i know cheap right but) if i use it in my room which is pretty cold (like 40-60F) when i turn it on then it starts out very dim (like less than or equal to a cheapy $0.50 red) then as it warms up it gets as bright as always.. but if i just warm it in my hands then it starts out bright.. so my question is is this a regular problem with greens or just DX or just mine? like is there a certain operating temp for greens (or any color for that matter)?

this is when the laser is cold.

(the pink around it i assume is the IR (since this is a DX and so has no IR filter) but you can see it with your eyes its pretty cool.. and most likely dangerous..) ;D

It's a regular problem with the cheaper greens, my LEDshoppe 5mW does it , I just leave it on till it heats up or stick it on the radiator for 30seconds to a minute.

Try using better batteries in it too :P

cool thanks :) do they make the protected batts in AAA? or just AA? (is it even worth it to use them if they do exists lol)

and is it normal to see the IR? :-?

You dont need to use protected batteries, the driver in the laser itself is enough to protect the diode.

And yes it is normal to see the IR when its low power, these lasers typically dont have IR filters. Whatever you do, do NOT look directly into the IR, even tho it looks very dull, it is quite powerful.

i have buy a dx laser, but don't work until i heated the laser, it's normal ?

I have a radioshack green, simalar to the DX 5, it takes 1-2 seconds to warm up if the batteries are low. The radioshacks do have a IR filter and an OK APC.
