Hi,

I was recently looking into building my own laser, but I am thinking before I go into spending money on buying parts to build lasers, I want to make sure I am serious about them and whether or not I really want to spend the time and money to do it seriously.

So I have done a bit of reasearch and found a link on the forumes to DX's high-Power 200mW Red Laser Pen for only $40 :O I really couldn't imagine I could get one this cheap and was wandering is it to good to be true? What is the quality like etc?

I would be ordering it and getting it shipped to the UK, do you think I will have any problems with customs etc or extra charges?

I hope this isn't too good to be true as it will be great just to get into lasers and see if I enjoy it, Im hoping that this laser is able to burn things? is that correct?

thanks again for any help

OOo, thats great news :)

I couldn't resist and just orderd one with EMS express Dill for an extra 19$ I know its alot but idc and I want it soon lol

thanks for the reply.

uh oh you didn't you may have just messed up usually ems isn't that much faster and it gets confiscated faster and more often that way by customs  :'(

I bought one a few months ago, and I was so happy with it so I bought 3 more later, all of them are still working.
They are all the same quality - the beam is good - no "dirt", and very powerful - great burners and very visible beam at night.

They do tend to heat though, and that's when I turn them off.

And the lens is a bit loose which is annoying but easily fixed by replacing the spring inside with a stronger spring.

Considering the price, it's a great buy.

Thanks people, as for the EMS delivery it turns out I actually didn't select it, FEW lol

So hopefully I shouldn't have any trouble and can't wait to get it :D

On your summary page, EMS shipping still shows as Airmail...I'd cancel the order and buy it again with Airmail. EMS is only a very very few days faster. Not worth it.

ok cheers mate, I cancelled the order fine and re-orderd it with airmail :)

thanks for the advice hopefully everything comes safe and sound ! :) I actually CANNOT wait till it arrives... Atleast this way, if I fail at building one I will still have one to have fun with :D

I'm waiting for it myself, it hasn't been shipped yet :o I hope you'll enjoy your new LAZAR ;D

You too mate, I am really looking forward to it lol, the suspense is killing me XD

Hey you should buy some laser safety glasses to, if you use your dx200 for burning and not use glasses you will eventualy go blind lol dragonlasers.com/catalog/Red-laser-beam-protection-640-750nm--Laser-Eyewear-p-16255.html
just about the same price you paid for the laser but worth it your eyes are worth more than a 40 dollar laser! :).

Yea I have orderd some bateries, but they arn't the rechargable ones, as I'll get some when the laser arrives from local electronics store :)

As for the goggles, I was definitly going to buy some, but I could decide between these: http://www.wickedlasers.com/lasers/Red_650nm_LaserShades-49-16.html

or: http://www.wickedlasers.com/lasers/Red_650nm_Sport_Elite_Goggles-18-16.html

Or the ones previously suggested: http://dragonlasers.com/catalog/Red-laser-beam-protection-640-750nm--Laser-Eyewear-p-16255.html

I probally go with the last pair as they have the best OD for the wavelength I will be using

I have the dragonlasers goggles, they make you look weird (the wickedlasers goggles doesn't make you look weird) but they are the best bang for the buck ;)

ok cheers :)

I think I might go with the wicked lasers ones, as they may be a bit more expensive but seem to cover alot more of the eye area :)

That's why I chose WL goggles, they cover the largest angle.

I have one anti-red goggles (blue plastic) and two anti-green (red plastic) - one for my girlfriend otherwise I'm not allowed to play in the house. ::)

I also like that you can put them on top of regular glasses, for the four-eyed among us.
