Find an ordinary LED. The longer leg should be negative. Hook the adapter up to the LED with a resister. If the LED turns on you just found the polarity of the wires.

If the output is 2 black wires bonded side by side they usually mark the positive side with a ridge along the side......

also, when the wires are bonded side by side, the negative will have white dashed running on the wire.

If you post a picture of the adapter in question I can probably tell you which wire is which.

Well i know on my wall wort the positive wire has the white line on it
