ok so I just recieved my 95mw DL but when I shine it down the hal the dots the size of a golf ball by the time it hits the wall is this normal as my 5mw wl stays a tiny dot down the street the dot on dl is about the size of a baseball or softball can I get something to focus it for far away cheap?

I'd send it back Unless your hall is 300 feet long. That divergence is terrible.

You should send it back unless you know how to focus it, but that usually means ripping it appart and voiding the warranty.

I bought it used it's about a year old

Edit: since it needs focused is there a tut how to rip it open and focus it?

How log is the hall? And did you wear goggles?

Without them the bright dot looks larger than it is.

yes I wore goggles and I'm guessing the hall is about 30 yds and without goggles in the dark the beam is the size of the dot about golf ball size

the brighter the laser the bigger the dot may appear to your unprotected eyes. it also depends on the walls color.

If your estimations are correct (and my calculations), the divergence is ~1.55mRad. :-/

If you take off the gold aperture and you'll find a lens glued to a brass-nut with two holes in it. You can try to adjust the nut by screwing it with needle pliers in the holes, see if it gets better by trial and error. But I have no experience so don't take my word for it, this is just what I would do.

Yes that works. However, I think it's an aluminum nut. But be careful, you don't want to damage your lens or strip the nut. They are very delicate and aluminum is soft. Break the glue around the nut (not the lens) and clear the residual glue from the threading with a needle. It takes a while to get it all. If you don't, it won't turn all the way. The lens probably won't go down any further because the IR filter is placed beneath it, but you can unscrew it a little bit.
If the divergence is not fixed after adjustment, you can replace the lens with one that has a different focal length.
