A short video explaning what "Doped" YAGs are and how they are used to make different color laser light.......

 





Doesn't really explain anything and contains several inaccuracies, or at least vague statements that aren't necessarily correct unless otherwise qualified or explained in more detail.

It explains what YAG crystals are, What elements are used to make them, Why YAG crystals are used for lasers and why they are "doped" and it gives a few examples of elements that are used to "dope" the crystals to change what wave length of light they emit, And it explains this in less than 55 seconds in simple way that even I can understand....

Could you do better in under 55 seconds run time ?

Now I need a better vid...
I told myself about a year and a half ago I needed to pick one area of lasers to concentrate on. Just sooo much lasers out there.. And I chose diode projectors. So I don't know much about yag!

I feel like this has been clipped from another video. Doesn't that guy host one of the pop-sci youtube channels?
 
It's just a scrap of information, a starting point to get people interested but far from an understanding, there's no mention of pumping methods or the different mirrors needed, it's not even a good introduction really.
 
finally had some time to watch it last night, is very sparse and misleading, things aren't as simple as stated.

Exactly Alaskan --it is almost completely devoid of any meaning----is kind of like saying "steel is used in making cars" level of information.

Other than just for entertainment You Tube is mostly useless. While there are some good presentations on You Tube they are few and afar between.

You Tube Univiesity is garbage in garage out, generally aimed at people with no more than a 4th grade education, reading level, and mentality for the most part.

The "YAG" video is an almost meaningless entertainment video --all it says is crystals are used lasers in --YAG crystals are used in eye surgery laser and many others--that amounts to somewhere between Kindergarten and 3rd grade level knowledge of YAG and of lasers.

Simpleton level First Aid for the functionally uneducated and mentally handicapped.

Just imagine the words of that video being spoken in the voice of Elmo of Sesame Street fame and you have clearer picture of what it really is.

PS Not meant as anything negative about Accu for posting the video--how would he know if he knew nothing about crystals used in DPSS lasers--the video does say that much that YAG crystals are used in some lasers---even thought the "color" part is misleading and not correct---laser do not emit "colors" they emit photons of a specific wavelength/frequency---not "colors".
Color is not a physical property; it is merely the brain's interpretation of different wavelengths.

Ha, no mention of non-linear crystals which are used with YAG's to produce VIS wavelengths which have color. Misleading without that.

Edit: My comments are not meant to be a hit on accu for posting this, happy he did. Although probably better to add to the you tube videos you want to share thread. I think it was created due to my continued new threads posting videos too.

Makes a bit more sense with context. It's no meant to be super in-depth or informative, it's just a short snippet reminding people that Yttrium exists.

Good to know that yttrium still exists. Also that neodymium does as well. Many of these elements I studied many years ago. I still remember them even without the video. Meh, still not much to tout about. Pun intended.
