Hi everyone I'd like to spend a quick review about the 808nm 1W for 98$ from Rayfoss.
I clicked the purchased button on the 30december 2012 and rapidly received the payapl invoice and proceed to pay.
The shipping it took about 14 days as usual.
When I open the box I quickly noticed that the label says <500mW???? Then I went back on the website and notice that they have different lasers with different power but the same host so I figured out it's just the label.
The website mention that it suppose to come with 2batteries and this has only one!... I figured they put the new driver wow!!
I let the battery fully charge...
Get my safety glasses on and....voila'!! No wait! WTH? This is CRAP!

I'm a proud owner of 54lasers and without pulling out my LPM I could tell this thing barely hits 300mW!
Ok pulled out my LPM from my garage and ....dammit it's not working ...open the funky box and all the circuit board is corroded from I don't know what my housemate spilled on it :(
However this laser is not able to light a match not even focusing the dot(and 808nm with this host it's close to round) and wait 3hours ...forget about burning plastic and electrical tape.
The full battery charge last about 35sec then the current drops from 1300mAh to 800mA, are you serious!!!!
I wrote to Faona just right away, took them 2days to reply as usual, amazed she couldn't believe it.
Faona: Send us some pics of the laser (send pics what for???)
Me : Ok as request I did it....
Faona: No I want the label pic one!...
Me: ok I did it...
Faona: it's normal that has one battery we mounted the new driver
Me: probably yes but it's not 1000mW ...not even close to 400mW output
Faona: ok let me talk to my engeneers they're investigating on these lasers I let you know in few hours
1 week later:
Me:hello there ...what you guys wanna do? refund me or exchange it?
End of the story no more reply I wanna HIGHLIGHT the fact that it takes 3/4 days for each reply so I don't wanna deal with them anymore
I keep buying from O-like,dragonlasers and other companies that seems to be less busy
I'm in San Jose Ca if someone around here has a working LPM at home plssss can I come over and test this piece of junk??
In a mean time I'm trying to repair my old one that the sensor is still good.

Sad to hear that... I bought from Rayfoss too. Luckily it was working ok.

Guess my next purchase will never from Rayfoss.
Will save up to buy from LPF laser engineers:beer:
 
In the past I bought 2 other items from Rayfoss and for the cheap prices it's still a reliable company(it takes for ever but at least they reply to e-mails) , but this laser is totally underspecs.! I've seen and played with lasers in my life and my eyes don't lie this is not 1000mW.
Just type "mrnandus" on youtube and check out my other 1000mW lasers review those are still around 800/900mW and they're "Beasts" compared to this one!

At least you didn't lose much on the deal, I received a 60mW "600mW" 532nm laser from them when I was new and before I had a LPM, and they will never get any business from me again for that.

Do I understand that statement correctly....:undecided::thinking:

We have a 40Watt 808nm IR Laser we use in the shop
and at 20Watts of output it is about as bright at a
3mW 650nm Red Laser...

Your eyes can barely see 808nm....

I'd get it metered before depending on your eyes
as a LPM and say that it is underspec because the
beam is not bright enough...

Faona said they always check the lasers before they ship it out, but I guess they don't! I remember another guy here in the forum had the same problem with the same underspec laser but my fault did do 2 much research about it before :( I'll take the lesson
 
I agree with you Lasersbee without LPM you won't never know with precision the output of this thing but I use many profesional cameras to look at the beam and focusing on black stuff it takes for evere to barely see the smoke with not a single scratch on the surface!
Now then duty cycle it's around a minute on but for a 1000mW doesn't require that much time to burn thru some duct tape right?
My other 900mW lasers can burn everything instantly without even focusing the beam, wood, plastic, white paper..
If someone around here in Silicon Valley has a LPM I'd love to test it and post some pics
 
Omg....then I would suspect the 200mW with Power Certificate might be a fake one. They could print one thing and send me another thing. I would suspect it is actually a 100mw. :banghead:

Geee.... I need a LPM but it usually cost more than 100 over bucks.
 
Without a real LPM, or a laser of the same type with certified power (and probably not even then), you're not going to be able to just "eyeball" the power. That 808nm wavelength may not be as easily absorbed by surfaces than other wavelengths (like 405nm), and who knows if you were even able to adequately focus the thing, as many objects need a very focused spot to burn.

Also, just because your product has a sticker on it doesn't mean that it is perfectly accurate; it's no certification, but more of a warning. Hell, I've got green lasers that had 5mW on them, but put out closer to 30mW. I'm betting they just stuck some generic sticker on it because they didn't want to make variants for every power level they sell.

I would just initiate another service call with Rayfoss if you're still hell bent on getting that 1000mW that you can't even accurately verify is actually not being achieve.

On another note, I've always wondered why people bothered buying those IR lasers. I mean, yeah, they had higher powers than other wavelengths for a time, but now we have other lasers at higher powers. An invisible laser beam just doesn't seem very appealing. Sure it may burn stuff, but the real magic of a laser for non-industrial uses is that you see a beam of light.
 
Without my old loved LPM I can still tell the laser is waaaaay undespecs.
I got a 425mW 650mw and 50mW all of them 808nm and the reaction on different surfaces are the same besides the suppose 1000mW where acts almost harmless compared to the 650mW.
I can focus the beam with ultra precision(I can see the dot is a little line) I've got HD cameras with 80x optical zoom without IR filter and dark vision in my laboratory.
I honestly didn't buy the laser to have fun burning or pointing my saber sword at the sky but it was for work purpose. We had a project with my company last week and this infrared laser was perfect if at least was close to 900mW
However Faona got back to me offering to refund 20% and keep the laser or 100% refund but it would take several weeks before I see that money :)
I appreciate their collaboration tho
 
Strange they did not offer to replace it with one that had a solid 1000mw output---just keep with small rafund or return for 100% refund.
Must mean they found that none of them are 1000mw, I would guess.
 
Send it back for a full refund. Otherwise you will stay with a bad taste in your mouth.

Very true. All he needs to do when and if he is refunded is buy one from a reputed member on these forums!
