Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode hop?

Ok so I'm on my THIRD dx greenie now that has severe mod hopping issues right out of the box. My first was the true 50 which I RMA'd because of this problem. While I was waiting for the 50 to return, I ordered a true 30. The 30 also mode hops like crazy but I'm not even going to bother sending it back because it was only $25. Now today I finally got my replacement true 50 and it seems like this one hops WORSE than the original did! I realize DX is a gamble but damn, three in a row that are really bad??

I figured it was a 50%-ish chance to get a good one from DX but now I'm starting to think they're all just crap. Does anyone actually have a decent laser from them?

All of the pen style lasers that I bought from dx work and don't have mode hopping issues. Additionally I bought 2 of the romisen mini lasers and both of them work well. The only dx laser that gave me problems was a 30mw ultrafire flashlight style laser. I guess you are just unlucky.

as you say, it really is a gamble, i heard some horror stories and some good ones.
in my case i got a very good 30

Re: Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode

yeah i got a good true 30 which can light match and cap gun caps with a lens.no ir

Re: Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode

Well I guess the 50 is going back again then ;D

I'm going to rip apart the 30 just for fun, and hopefully I'll have an alpha 125 by late next week anyway.

make sure the batteries are fresh and brand new. try lithium and ni-mh batteries also.

Don't buy the 200mw greenie. Buy the 30mw flashlight version which is much easier to swap drivers on. The PCB on the dx200 is crap.

Batteries are all fresh... tried lithiums and alkaline etc etc.

BUT I cleaned the lens off really well (it was horribly dirty..) and it seems as if the 50 has stopped mode hopping, at least it stays tem00 long enough to burn stuff. at first it would mode shift after like 1 second, if that. So I let it run for about 5 min straight and then let it cool down for an hour. Now it seems to be somewhat stable! We'll see how it performs over the next few days but if it stays at least half-way ok like it is now, then I just might keep it. Hell, its burning through paper and melting black PVC and its only a 50mw!

EDIT: I actually gave myself a blister on my hand. Ouch. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays stable!

My NewWish 150mw- same as DX sells - is quite stable. Burns very well too....

What kind of paper are you burning?

how did u clean the lens?

i really want to clean my 30's but i dont know how to do it without damaging it or disassembling it..

Re: Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode

I've handled a nice amount of DX pens, 5 that I can remember right now. All of them are great, but one of them would mode hop when the batteries were basically dead.

Re: Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode

Ive owned a Total of 4 DX green lasers, and none of them mode hopped, however only 1 survived.

True 50mW (both broke, and were in horrible condition)
Ultrafire 90mW (i actually got a good one, but i mistakingly thought it was bad, i tried to take it apart, broke it doing this, and when i looked inside i found out it was a good laser. so i broke my good laser)
Romisen 30mW mini laser (still works, using it now, great condition and veyr bright)

Re: Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode

My DX 30 is faithful as anything, though only 23mw it does NOT mode hop, and it has <1% output stability. Never fails me despite its share of knocks and drops. Hot and cold seem to do nothing.

Re: Does anyone have a DX laser that DOESN'T mode

Well it looks like I'm going to send it back. Its just too unstable... at maximum I can only get about 30 seconds of good tem00 and then it splits into like 3 or 4 dots with a smear on one side... :'(

I might as well send the 30 back while I'm at it....

Both lasers are pretty much worthless at this point. The 30mw wont even get like .5 sec of tem00

All that time and money spent and shipping it back, i would have just bought a nova laser.
