I recently purchased a crummy video camera, so I had to do this.

This is my 'homemade' red laser pointer igniting some paper matches from about 4 feet (> 1 meter) away.

Laser's in a brick package, uses the SenKat (stonetek) diode running at 180mA, so it's likely putting out 100-125 mW. Not great, but enough to power to burn.

Just 180mA??? These new diodes can be easily pushed to 350mA giving an output way over 200mW. Try doing that and then make another video. :P

Well, I got these diodes early, they're from last summer. Apparently they're not as good as what SenKat is now offering. I had one going around 225-250mA, but it only held up around 3 months. Was an outstanding burner while it lasted. I want this one to last. I'm planning on doing another DIY red soon, more powerful. This will be by 'low' powered backup red 8-)

yea I had 2 of those diodes laying around as well. you can push them to 200mA safely. I put one in my kenom barrel. I think I want to take it out now and put in a open can, because its kind of week =[

Wow, I never thought those diodes were still around. :o Take good care of them, they're the last ones.

I had one of those old GB diodes die at 250mA just a while ago, I think 200mA is a good spot for those old ones.

Not from group buy, but must have been the same series.

At 300ma, instant LED.

Oh, well I had 3 off ebay.
