DIY Laser Power Meter?

I saw something interesting here the other day in the B/S/T section, and it got my gears ticking. Would it be possible to construct a Laser Power Meter using a volt meter or ampere meter and a photocell? I mean in theory it should work right? The more powerful the beam, the more current it would produce for the meter. Thoughts/comments/suggestions? :beer:

Yeah that be it lol. Makes much more sense to use one of these than to spend $300 for a true LPM.

Hey. Some people can't afford a good LPM.
