DIY Laser Power Meter

I may just put a diode in series with each batt (0.7V drop each).  Not as much waste heat as dropping all the way down to 5V.

Anyway I neglected to say before - cool project!  I'm building one as soon as my parts arrive.  Beats the heck out of the solar-cell project I had started on.

The diodes are not a bad idea... They would also serve as reverse polarity protection from the batteries. :)

Thanks.

If those of you outside the US really want one, I'm sure we can figure out how to get it to you.

I'll buy some for those that need it overseas. ;) It's not an illegal to export item is it? ::)

Paypal me the funds for the item + shipping and I'll be happy to help.

thanks for the offer, i am still thinking about it
can anyone tell me how much the thermal pile sensor package weighs?

you'd be a traitor if you send these sensors overseas...

lol, i wonder why they have restrictions on that? maybe it has even more dangerous potential? we're already messing with blinding lasers, what else dangeroud can we build? hah, i want my cancer laser 300nm!

Who has restrictions on sending these overseas? I just assume that the Ebay seller doesn't want to be bothered with international shipping hassles.

I'm going to be making up some printed circuit boards this coming week. These will be simple home etched PCBs without a silkscreen , etc., using the original schematic with the additional diodes suggested by Zarniwoop.

I'll make them available (in a limited quantity) to anyone who wants one for a reasonable price (the cost of the materials).

This should simplify construction significantly.

This looks like a fun project. I am very interested in getting one of these, however, I'm in Canada. Can a US member help me out?

I'm interested if it can get to me around the time my sensor gets here. I'm quite anxious to get it going! :D

I said I would. ;) My zip code is 38002. You figure the costs, send me the money and I'll buy it and mail it.

Thanks roSSco, I'm out of town until the end of the week but I am interested. I checked the USPS web site - it looks like shipping is in the $16-22 range (if I read the tables right).
