Hiya ,

Just complimenting some Bill's machining skills , as he made this host a piece of perfection.

No need to take my word for it. Take a look yourself.

So, in an accident involving my own stupidity and a short circuit, I sent some few amps through the last 16 mm switch I had. So it pretty much got busted.

I had to improvise with some switches I had.

Anyhow, driver is AMC , 1 A, and host made case positive.

Set screws for the head and tailcap are so bada$$ that I will need more of these kind of hosts in future.

Very nice... I can say that IR diode diode doesn't deserve that nice looking custom made host. (I can imagine 445nm diode inside :) )

But I must say that this host deserves more care....

Looking at hot glue around AMC board is very annoying.
And thinking that AMC chips are not cooled, ahhh.... it hurts.

Sorry, but I cannot to withhold to say all that....
 
Nice to see that host fired up! I like the setscrews, especially for the laser head. If repair or upgrade is needed, things come apart easily. I'm glad that the switch worked out. What kind of lens wound up in there? Aixiz glass?

Lens are two plastic aixiz lenses one after another, both have been cut with blade to around 2 mm shorter from the back, so that the lens can get as close to the diode as possible.

I've found in my experience that using two plastic lenses tightly fit inside is much better than one glass lens. More power collected and transmitted.

Using 650 nm coated lens on 808nm laser is just about same as using bluray lens for a green laser, or green laser lens for red. Very far coating differences.
What kind of IR diode is in there?

1W 9mm can diode, those that only have two pins and horrible beam profile without FAC. But this baby burns like hell.

Yes, that works the best if you need to burn something on 13-14mm.

First lens collects almost all light from diode and directs to second lens.
But burning something on 13-14mm can be risky because all that smoke can make lens dirty.

With only one lens (aixiz glass lens) you can focus laser to higher distances but dot becomes bigger and energy is not enough concentrated for burning.
And another thing is about using only one lens is that not all light can be collected.

I hear what your saying, less not forget though, that one works with what one has. Your limited by money and means... if he had either of the the two I'm sure he would has choosen a diffrent method.:yh:

Exactly - I just wish I had a lathe machine, I'd be making crazy and awsome lasers all day long.

Besides, his particular comment about the contact board, I just freshly ran out of superglue which I'd use before hot glue.
Hot glue is clumbsy to use around such tiny stuff, it's amazing that I even got it right without moving anything or shorting anything.
