I think the high powered IR diodes are windowless :-/They're not useless but they're not all that highpowered anyway.You can't get them to put out 100mW.And most people don't have NIR goggles, so that's what makes them pretty much useless... And you can test polarity with an ohm meter, I don't think that kills it. :p

some ohm meters might be useful. diode testers will most probably kill it as it's not the current that kills but the voltage. (the current will still be a few picoamps when it kills)

Yes you're right, they are windowless.

Correction, it's the current that kills, not the voltage. ;)

I was talking about reverse voltage. In forward voltage current kills but in reverse it's voltage (At least one datasheet said so)
