Tell me if im wrong, but wouldnt the proxies cache alot of their pages, so when u use a proxy, you're getting a cached version of DX from a while back? I havent been able to get onto DX here in New Zealand for about a week now either. It sucks!

I have identified and traced the problem with DX back to a faulty DNS. A WHOIS lookup on DX turns up that its registered through GoDaddy, and the DNSs are:
park33.secureserver.net
park34.secureserver.net
Both do not respond to ping. :-/

Looking into secureserver.net, they are recently losing a LOT of domains to other DNS services. down 75,000 domains over 3 nights!

Other thing is LPF has only just escaped this!
LPF is registered through GoDaddy and usees
park23.secureserver.net
park24.secureserver.net

Park23 responds to ping but park24 doesn't!! :o
Someone in the US care to ping these all and post their results.
So:
23 - avg 256ms, 4/4 packets returned
24 - none, timeout, lost 4/4
33 - none, timeout, lost 4/4
34 - none, timeout, lost 4/4

pinging from my server in the US, i get pretty much the same results:

--- park23.secureserver.net ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0% packet loss

--- park24.secureserver.net ping statistics ---
14 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

--- park33.secureserver.net ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

--- park34.secureserver.net ping statistics ---
12 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

but both opening a web browser to dealextreme on my server in the US, and my home computer in the UK seems to work fine?

23 has 0% loss with an average time of 110ms from here. 24, 33, and 34 are all at 100% packet loss.

DX site works for me, but I'm using OpenDNS servers and the Level3 backbone DNS server, not the default ISP-set DNS servers.

A Proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) which services the requests of its clients by forwarding requests to other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server provides the resource by connecting to the specified server and requesting the service on behalf of the client. A proxy server may optionally alter the client's request or the server's response, and sometimes it may serve the request without contacting the specified server.

so it would seem the problem is with a bad DNS. I put in a support ticket on DX about this a while ago I might update them with this.

edit: done

I sent them an email informing them of the problem and they replyed:

"Thank you for you attention.

The network our server using having some technical difficulties in the past two days. We are working with our hosting company to get it resolved.

Thank you for your understanding and patients while we fix this oversight. "

*idea*
anyone got a way to ping these from china?
Since DX is based there their servers just might be too.
Worth a try.

Well, right now I don't get a downtime, but a server error (503), due to "maintenance downtime or capacity problems"

But in another thread, where the 200mW is linked, I get the following message (link: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1997~r.73285186 [not my ref.])

Which does not sound like a faulty DNS to me. Anyways, yesterday it worked fine, so the faulty DNS didn't affect me (europe/germany).

DX site is back on the air.
I ordered a 200mw, so they are still in stock.

Hemlock Mike says his new 200mw is DOA. (Condolences, and a minute of solemn reflective silence.)

I ordered a 5mW green from them a month ago and still have not seen the thing. Their status page showd that it shipped but the tracking number they provided isn't recognized on any of the tracking sites I've tried. Are they normally this slow?

Delivery from DX usually takes less than a month--but the exceptions occur too often.

Well if your christmas shopping boy & girls then get shopping now :D
